Insurance, Home Delivery, Direct Signature etc all increase cost. FedEx Retail Price for your shipment and $2k insurance is $190 if you have scheduled pickup at your location for home delivery. Some people who have Corporate Accounts that do big business with UPS or FedEx get good discounts. USPS does not have big Corporate Discounts. Last edited by Kabrich; 01-30-2017 at 07:43 PM.. |

Question regarding boxes. The size you mentioned works, but the weight doesn't make sense. But I think it's all dimensional weight anyway. What am more curious about is where do you get the boxes in that size and how much are they. Does it offset the non-standard packaging surcharge? I think UPS is $7.50 ea, not sure what FedEx is. |

I use Fedex for all of my shipments. I used to have UPS account but cancelled it as Fedex for me is a lot easier to deal with. I purchased a set of 405's off ebay last year and the guy went to a local rim shop and got boxes from 26's. I will be reselling them as I just ordered a set of HRE and will not be using 405's so I have to go get boxes again as I threw other ones away.

That guide is very good tool. I bought a set of 19" VMR's off this forum from a guy 3 years ago and he shipped them in a toilet box with no packing at all. When I got them they were so beat up I could not do anything with them. He could have learned from this guide! Lol

As far as non-standard package surcharge see the following https://www.ups.com/content/us/en/sh...cial_care.html Specifically this: Additional Handling Charges Applies to the following: Any cylindrical item, such as a barrel, drum, pail or tire, that is not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container. |

However, I do not *believe* FedEx has that charge. As for packing,http://howtoshipwheels.com/HowToShipWheelsWithTires/ |

Ground. A surcharge applies to any package that: 1) measures greater than 48 inches but equal to or less than 108 inches along its longest side; 2) measures greater than 30 inches along its second-longest side; 3) has an actual weight of greater than 70 lbs.; 4) is not fully encased in an outer shipping container; 5) is encased in an outer shipping container made of metal or wood; 6) is cylindrical, including (without limitation) cans, buckets, barrels, drums or pails that are not fully encased in an outer shipping container made of corrugated fiberboard (cardboard) materials; 7) is bound with metal, plastic or cloth banding (including packages where the outer surface area is loosely wrapped or creased, or where the contents protrude outside the surface area); or would become entangled in or cause damage to other packages or the FedEx sortation system. This surcharge applies per piece even if multiple pieces are bundled in a shipment. We reserve the right to assess additional handling charges for packages that require special handling or that require FedEx to apply additional packaging during transit. |

I have a FedEx Corporate Rate based on a very high weekly volume. Perhaps this is one of the things they waive and we never pay because of the weekly volume. Dunno. But never had it charged. BTW, the price I quoted in Post #3 was based on rims only at 27lbs. Rims and tires will obviously cost you more ($220 and possibly higher if you pay surcharges), so the $150 is a very cheap price for you, to answer your original question, and inline with post #2.
