Just got my tank replaced under warranty at 68K. SA told me that the tanks are a common problem area and typically need to be replaced before 100 k miles. $3k repair otherwise. Dreading the expiration of my extended warranty.

That must include labor. If you can jack the car up, you can replace it yourself. Still, I am sure the part is expensive, maybe that is why I cant find a part number for it.

Your story is somewhat similar to mine. My first SES light was for the reductant tank sensor malfunction. They replaced the entire tank since the sensor is inside. Within a few months, urea was pouring all over the ground b/c my tank pump (guessing thats the supply module) was over pressurizing. They just replaced the pump that time. No problems since (20k miles later). Have say though, you got jipped on the loaner cptcrunch. I asked if they had an X5 and they gave me a 50i they had available. What an incredible machine!! I commute too much to give up my 35mpg, so i'll have to settle for getting it for my wife.

I was on my third one at 40K and I live in Mi. I feel BMW should have bought them all back and crushed them. It really borders on criminal.

I had this same error code 4D32, instead of replacing the tank I replaced the AD-Blue heater only, BMW doesn't sell the part but VW has the exact equivalent part
VW Part# 7L6198970A The part cost me approximately 350$ CAD and 200$ labor for swapping it, it was a straight swap identical part. Way better than replacing the whole SCR tank. Now the engine light has not come back |
