Bluetooth - idrive

ITs been asked numerous times but the search brought up nothing conclusive so....

I have 2006 e90 with idrive/nav/bmw assist/bluetooth calls... but want to stream music from my phone.
Is this possibly or should I opt for a aux adaptor for centre console?

Depends if you have USB, then you can use the Dension Gateway. Otherwise Bluetooth dongle (or hardwire to Aux), I use the JL Audio MBT-RX, another recently recommended one is by a company named Tunai, IIRC.

Skip the $10 amazon specials, they sound like crap.

EDIT: Link for Tunai: http://www.tunai-creative.com/firefly.html

You can also retrofit USB (6FL) with bimmertech for $$$

The 6FL option gives you a USB connection in your center console. If you only have a aux jack and standard 12v outlet, you don't have it.

You probably still have USB access in your glove box, it's just not capable of phone control or being used for the Dension Gateway.

2006's did not have a USB or any option for one.
BMW did not put that in the car till 07 called the 6fl
option.
If you want to go OEM you need Mulf 2 high hardware
and depending on if your car has prewiring antennas and other
support hardware. Then you need to do some tricky programming
to program it into your car as it is not intended for that
model year. This still does not get you music streaming
if that is what you are looking for.
Combox is the OEM module that allows streaming not sure if its
possible in an 06 I have read you need idrive as a qualifier.

The cheap way out is an Aux adapter.
The not so cheap way out is something like a Dension gateway 500s BT

Simple upgrade now to Bluetooth streaming is the Carly Bluetooth adapter.
