Is this FS cable compatible?

I inherited this blue cable

which worked fine for my E46 (Inpa/NCS). However I get a "datatransmission error" when I try it on my E90. Am I correct in assuming that the cable is kline whereas the E90 requires a dcan cable? If that's the case, can someone recommend one that is known to work with the e90 my 2009, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, I'll buy from there. I still want confirmation that the cable I linked above is incompatible though, so if anyone recognizes it that would be awesome.

Make sure your drivers are installed, set to com1 & latency 1. If all the above are done & it doesn't communicate, it's not compatible.

It is, but i'll double check again when i get home. I actually did the install on 2 different computers. Both install methods & OS were different, the only common link is the cable.

I'll reach out to tunightech fs since it's branded by them, maybe they can tell me more about the cable.

I think it's probably a rebadged vag-com cable which works fine for E46s.

Cable like this is probably fine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/K-D-CAN-DCAN...MAAOxyRNJSlJax

However, keep in mind that if you plan on flashing your DME, the D-CAN cable firmware has a bug that results in corruption ("06" is written every 253 bytes instead of the correct data) on E9x M3s. I updated the firmware on mine and that seemed to fix the bug, but I don't know if I'd be willing to take the risk on a non-BDMable DME. ICOM might be worth the price of admission to avoid issues like that.

Perfect thank you. I'll be hanging out in ncs expert, so no dme flashing. On the E46 I wanted shift lights so that was different.
