Anyone know if it's ok to us LL-98 oil on N55 engine?

I want to purchase some Liqui Moly 5w40 for my 2011 335i but I wanted to first make sure that even though it is not LL-01 approved that it should still be fine.

I routinely change my oil every 5,000 miles.

liqui moly 5w40 is some of the best oil you can use for your car. Motul and shell rotella t6 are also both very good choices.

if you are changing oil every 5000 miles like you should, the LL rating is irrelevant.

disagree about blanketly saying you can ignore it.

if you're going to ignore ll01 as a minimum you want an api rating of SN, acea a3/b4 rating and hths >3.5.

my pick of oils would be:

motul xcess 8100 5W40
Redline 5W40 - group V/IV very high HTHS.
LIQUI MOLY Leichtlauf High Tech 5W40

I would only use LL01 liqui moly. Check out bobistheoilguy. There's a bunch of info and it doesn't seem like non LL01 oils will tolerate the high temperature, high shear forces and abuse the n55 has to offer. German Castrol 0w-40 is LL01 approved, runs brilliantly in the n55 and is $24.99 online shipped. You can't go wrong.

The Liqui Moly I found on amazon is two 5 litre bottles of 5w40 for $60 so I was wanting to see if it's still worth getting it if it's only LL-98 approved but not LL-01 approved

I have been using it. LM 5w40 is a great oil compared to the BMW(Shell) oil I was using. The lifters are unbelievably quieter at cold start. I do want to try Motul 5w40 next.
