E92 carbon fiber lip/splitter install

So i got in on a small like 6 person group buy from ikonmotorsports here on the forums, on these carbon fiber front lips that are said to be universal for all the different e9x bumpers and lips. I took the leap of faith and got it and finally have a little downtime to install it. The quality looks good when I unboxed it. It was packaged very securely, there are no imperfections on the product, and came with some hardware splitter rods (don't know if i'll use, I didn't know they came with), and some ikon merch.

I live in an apartment and you're not supposed to do maintenance in the parking lot. But I have no work today, the lot is empty because everyone else is at work and my 2 year old is napping. So, fuck it. The bumper was pretty easy, 4 screws on top, a few on each fender liner. The tough ones were the 8mm ones behind the fender liner on the back of the bumper, my car is low and Im not using a jack right now. Anyway, after turning the wheels to lock and some f bombs I got em.

Im about to clean the bottom of the bumper and the lip with isopropyl alcohol and mock it up. I'll make some marks where I'm going to drill my holes, but won't finish until later when I have my wife here to handle my son while I work on it. Ill update the pics once its all installed

Can't wait to see the installed pics.
Curious to see if it is wider than the bumper and also how far it sticks out the front when installed.

I'll be installing my on an M3 style bumper. Just going to jack it up and install it directly without removing bumper.

Jacks would have been nice but having the bumper off made drilling and placement really easy.

It is about 1.5 inches wider on either side of the bumper. It sticks out about 1 inch in the front and almost 2 in other areas, depending on where you place it. You have a small amount of wiggle room to place it but may lose access to some of the fastener holes on the bumper where it secures to the under tray of the vehicle. the middle holes are further back while the ones on the ends are more on top of the lip if that makes sense.

So the install was pretty simple. I placed the bumper on top of the lip and measured and shifted it many many times. I then marked it and drilled holes with a 3/16 bit. I placed 3m doubles sided tape once I saw where the holes were. I ended up using size 10x1.5 stainless steel pan head screws and lock washers and nuts. I actually could have gone with 1 inch but at the time thought there would be more material to drill through. I then hit the tape with the heat gun to make it more sticky and laid the bumper down. Once its down its down so be careful lol. I installed all the hardware and that was it really. Installing the bumper on the car was way except those dame 8mm fender screws again, those suck especially the one closest to the headlight. having the car in jacks with the wheel off may give you more room. For $100 something dollars I would say it would say it was a good buy.

Overall I am pleased with it, but I think it will all look much better once I have my m3 rep side skirts painted and installed.

Ah sorry man I didn't take any of the underside unfortunately. I meant to take more during the process, but I got in the swing of things and forgot until I was all done.

Haha no worries man, the lip looks good. I have the same aero lip. I'm just curious how you made the carbon lip so flat/straight. Wouldn't it curve under the front splitter things that are part of the aero lip.

The lips comes flat already and it's pretty rigid, I put one screw directly on the middle in addition to the sides of the bumper for security but it didn't make it bow up and curve

Also referencing back to the original post form the vendor with markup pics, it looks like it may fit better, meaning closer to width, on the m3 and other style bumpers.

Looks totally out of place on an Aero Lip Bumper.

EDIT** Ordered Mtech bumper and AKM style lip. This Lip is off, lasted 12 hours lol. I'm not a fan of scraping or the aero look with the lip. Ordered Mtech bumper and AKM front lip.

Yeah this things coming off, took a drive to go pick up a pizza and scraped on literally everything. I left that low life behind with my last car lol. Time to just get a different style bumper

Installed on my M3 rep bumper tonight.
Looks like it fits better on my bumper than OP's aero lip.
I did have to bend the lip a little since the bottom of my bumper isn't completely flat.

Looks great man! I figured it would fit better on the m3 lip judging from the venders pics as well. I sold mine, but yours looks good
