Rear Brake Pads

I hate posting this as I'm sure a quick search would help, but my rear brakes are making noise and are in need of replacing. Anyone have a link to decent rear brake pad set they purchased recently? Stock rotor is still fine and will not be replacing.

Thanks

I have R1 Semi-Metallic pads, and they are weak. I feel like I have to press the brake much harder to stop and keep my car stopped. According to the guy with R1-Concepts(Forum sponsor here, so you get a great deal), he'll send you a set of front and rear Hawk HPS pads for $155 shipped. Those are the most like OEM, but still not a s strong. If you want to maintain stopping strength, get OE or OEM.

Thank you, that is very helpful. I do about 90% highway mileage, so there is very little heat in my rotors, but when I need brakes, I need them to grip. Past few cold rain showers, it has been unnerving driving for an hour in almost freezing rain conditions and then use the brakes to come find they are almost non-existent until they grip. Assuming it's wet rotors as I do not experience this in dry conditions. I have now learning to pre pump before my exits, but very odd feeling.

I had some drilled and slotted rotors from R1 concepts that were absolutely phenomenal until they warped. My car is just a daily driver, so the odd heat dissipation of a drilled and slotted rotor may have caused them to warp faster. Maybe you could try slotted rotors. They'll give the water somewhere to go when you brake. R1 has great costumer service and phenomenal prices. Not affiliated, just a satisfied customer.

I read on the forum somewhere that the newer OEM pads had a lot less dust.

I never understood the dust debate. I was told the Posi-Quiet pads would have significantly less brake dust, but I have seen no decrease. Not that it's an issue.

I replaced both front and rear pads (left existing rotors alone) in November. I used Textar which are supposed to be an OEM supplier to BMW, but who knows. I bought my D used so I can't be sure if BMW pads were on there before (I was at 85K miles when replaced) and I did not study the pads as they came off but my recollection from when I bought car a couple of years ago that the pads were replaced by BMW previously. Performance feels the same as before (I certainly have no quantifiable measurements!). Dusting appears to be similar (fronts are noticeable and rears quite a bit less so). Fitment was fine, no issues. Fronts and rears for a total of $103.

Bought from Import Replacement Parts w/ free shipping:

Part number Product Item price Quantity Total
34216769105 TEXTAR Disc Brake Pad
Position: Rear
Disc Brake Pad $45.18 1 $45.18
2331303 TEXTAR Disc Brake Pad
Position: Front
Front; Disc Brake Pad
disc Brake Pad $57.62 1 $57.62

I really appreciate that feedback. Just happened to order Textar last night. Good to hear they feel OEM...also good to see another D in the Tri-state area...I often shoot down to Woodbury Commons which is spitting distance from Northern NJ

I had those on my VW Jetta TDI too and they were good pads. No issues at all. And the way it was explained to me is whenever you need to replace them, just bring them back o the store and they'll give you a brand new pair free of charge. Kinda like how FCP Euro handles their stuff.

depends on which OEM pads you're looking at... I have Textar pads, and while the bite is good - black dust. lots of it.

OP, using anything other then OEM for rear pads I think would be kind of stupid. dont bother
