Time for an update. 808AWD325xi was right, confirmed by dstrickland, radio was early 05 build and would not any updates. I then purchased a radio from a 2011 and installed it tonight. HD radio and BT are working. Still no love on the USB. USB did not show up after writing the FA with a newer build date. So I coded AUDIO_PLAYER_INBOX_ON_OFF to aktiv. Now USB shows up as a source but it has the 2 dashes under it and says "insert USB" when I attempt to select it. My Tune2air adapter is in the USB and it is getting power. (Tune2air emulates an old iPod)

What should I check next? thanks!

Send the name of your daten index file(not Trc). Go into NCS as if your going to code your rad, it should pop right below like "xxx.c0x".

Assuming you already tried 6FL, have you tried just a standard USB? If your rad came off the 14' X1 we spoke about, I don't think they used +IPOD in those VO's of that date so the emulator may not be necessary or interfering.

For the hell of it, try +IPOD & see if it helps.

Did you change your production date when you did your coding.
When you are talking about a newer radio do you know if it is the
one with the built in usb bluetooth ? If you did get one of those did
you follow the coding in the thread for that type of radio which has
a different name for the rad file. I recall those symtoms from the
built in usb radio thread. Are you still using the Mulf 2 which you don't
need for the radio with the built in usb.
I think all the newer radio's have built in HD so no need for IBOC.

Thanks guys. I think I got it working. I changed the build date to #0909 and wrote it to the MULF and then Ipod showed up. I thought I had done that several times already.

I ended up getting a plain LCI pro radio out of a 2011 for $70. The radios with the built in USB/BT seem to be for the non US market and I wanted HD radio. Some of them don't have MOST which is really odd.

I still have not confirmed the steering wheel controls allow me to skip songs. This worked on my 09 X5 but I am unsure if my 06 E90 will allow this to work. I won't be able to test fully until I run the audio lines to the MULF.

World Wide there are a lot of variations put out by BMW with some
pretty stripped down cars by our standards including ones that don't
have a Most Bus.(Cloth Seats, Base stereo no amp, Small displacement gas and diesel down to 1.6 liter maybe smaller)

Time for another update. iPod audio via tune2air adapter is working however I can't skip songs with the steering wheel controls nor can I see song info on the radio screen. It just says "loading". In the past when this donor MULF2 HI was in my X5, I was able to skip and see song info.

This car is an 06 E90 which never came with USB. The radio would not support a needed software update so I swapped it out with an LCI radio from a 2011 and added my MULF2 HI from my 09 X5. As a first step, could someone confirm everything is on the latest software levels? Thanks

Since the new radio has HD integrated is the IBOC line or software even needed?
What is the FAS ? Why do both those lines display ? marks?

The shot above that listed IBOC was a week old. The pre-lci IBOC module has now been removed and integrated HD radio works great.

If FAS is the seat module, the only thing unusual is it was replaced with a version that supports heat and lumbar. The original one was power only.

Thanks for the software version info 808AWD325xi. I will attempt to update this weekend.

Are FA VO and ZB all the same things?
When talking about default programming basicly you
are reading the VO and programming it to the original values.
But isn't it being updated if from ista p or windkfp won't it choose
the most uptodate version in your copy of ista or winkfp.

Final update. It was working all the time. Unpaired my phone and paired my daughters iphone. Now steering wheel controls work for song skips and song info is displayed on screen. The only thing different between our phones is she uses Apple music play lists. My daughter will get her license in 3 days and our hope is she does not touch the phone while driving.

So it is possible to add MULF2 HI/USB/BT and LCI HD radio to an early build 06. Thanks to everyone who helped with this.

Her radio also has Sirius built in which I could get working if I activated with a FSC code and extended the pink antenna wire from the trunk to the radio. I personally dislike Sirius but added this for others who may be doing this mod.

If anyone wants to buy a pre-lci HD radio module with the needed antenna extensions let me know. I put together a kit to hook to Sirius pre-wiring. Will work in E70 or E90.
