HPFP issue or something else?

This morning i went to start the car and it starts fine no long cranks etc but then after a few seconds started to run rough

Half engine light came on etc

These are the codes that have come up

29F1 Fuel pressure, plausability
29D1 Misfirings, cylinder 5
29D2 Misfirings, cylinder 6
29D0 Misfirings, cylinder 4
29CC Misfirings, several cylinders
29F2 High Pressure Pump / Open Loop Set Too High

Last week i changed the rocker cover, coil packs and spark plugs as there was oil all over the coils from a rocker cover crack.

There is a strong smell of fuel and white smoke coming from the exhaust.
This morning i reset the codes several times and it came back straight away.

I have just reset the codes and taken it for a drive and it seems fine possibly underpowered but no warning lights have returned

Not sure what the issue is, I have a few logs off the jb4 from yesterday but not from 3rd gear to 4th so not sure if usefull here

Any help much appreciated

id start with misfires. Move the coil packs to different cylinders and see if the codes follow. Ive heard of others purchasing "bad" but new coil packs. I had the same symptoms awhile back it was just a bad coil pack.

Same issue again this morning

Checked codes
Misfire on cylinder 6
And
29F1

Half engine light

Swapped coils 1 and 6
Issue remained on 6

Pulled cyclinder 6 plug and its black and smells of fuel was only changed 100 miles ago
Same with cyclinder 2

Also seems to be oil in the plug but I have just changed the rocker cover and gasket and torqued all to spec and double checked the torque once it was hot so not sure it the leaks from elsewhere?

Sounds like leaky fuel injectors at least on Cylinders 6 & 2. If you have a lot of miles on engine..... it happens, they wear out, especially if you are running aftermarket tune/piggyback ECM(JB4). All that stuff is fun, but as horsepower increases so does many other things, i.e. accelerated wear of engine fuel components. You gotta pay, if you want to play, and not just in the cost of the mods.
If you have significant oil in a plug hole -sorry, but VC gasket is leaking.

Good Luck
Bruce

If i swap injectors around to determine if the misfire moves would i need to code them and change the decoupler?

If it's just for testing I wouldn't necessarily code them. However it's easy and quick enough to do. The decoupler falls in the same boat, for a short test, no harm done.

There are some folks that say the sealing run (near the tip of the injector) should also be replaced when injectors are removed.

I had Cobb, so I could monitor my fuel pressure "real time" and see what was going on. I would start the car and have ~75PSI of fuel pressure (HPFP not pumping) for several seconds. The engine would run rough and sometimes stall. A few blips of the throttle would usually cause it to start and generally work fine. In cases where it would stall, it might take restarting the engine once or twice before it started building pressure.

The problem happened most often if the car had not been started for a day or more, like after sitting for a weekend. It seemingly never happened during the day, when it had recently been started. Once the pump primes, it spikes over 2,000 psi and then eventually settles on whatever the DME is requesting. If you are monitoring it on a gauge, you can't miss it. Once I realized that the missing and stalling only happened when the fuel pressure was under 100 PSI, I understood that the pump was my problem. I had noticed some surging at WOT, but could not pin point an exact reason why. Once the HPFP was replaced, ALL of the problems went away. The car starts instantly, runs smoothly and pull strong at boost with NO surging. It is pretty obvious that my pump was having more problems that simply losing prime overnight and was under-performing too.
