Brake Upgrade or Just better discs/pads?

Hey all,

Looks like I will be needing some new brake discs and pads all round as they are lipped at the front and almost on the bare minimum at the rear, so time for a change.

Been quoted £350 fitted for them all, disc's, pads, sensors but this is very much standard parts...

However, its opened a door for me to look at better brakes. What do people recommend upgrading too?

Should I just look at the F20/F3x Calipers etc or should I go for better discs with yellow stuff pads etc?

My driver side caliper seized so I ended up putting 330D front brakes on and it made a massive difference! I highly recommend going for bigger brakes

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

How much did you fork out if you don't mind me asking?

Quoted £400 all in from Cotswold. So thinking thats my budget and then I can fit myself.

What parts are included in that quote? My discs and pads need changed soon and I want to upgrade them from the standard 330d ones as they're terrible from what I'm used to in my Integra.

front and rear pads, discs and wear sensors... that is car specific though and my 318i may (probably will) have smaller/lesser spec/cheaper parts than yours

The BMW breakers yard that I used to work in. They're 330mm however I think that LCI 330's have even larger brakes. eBay is the best site to get them though I highly recommend them

Ah ok, lucky guy!!

Been looking at what I can do:

£350 fitted (most likely Euro Car parts)
£400 for BMW OEM 318i brakes - need to fit myself
£500 for 330 upgrade (caliper etc) - need to fit myself

Also, getting this past the misses is a hard one too. She doesn't "get it" and is just saying go for the cheapest option.

If you're going to put those bigger brakes to 'Good' use then go ahead by all means otherwise it's not worth the extra money

With coating you're looking at just over £200, for performance discs and mintex pads

I have been hearing bad reviews on these packages.. apparently vibration and squeaking. anyone fitted and confirm this isn’t the case. I need to do the brakes my 335i and don’t want to spend the money if they are going to be shite and need changing again!

I had drilled and grooved versions on my Alfa GT.

Very good upgrade and no untoward sounds. Make sure you pay for the coating though.
