Is this limp mode?

My car is a 2012 328 rwd wagon.

I took it to the track last weekend and in the 2nd session it had this issue where when I flat footed it, nothing happened for about 1-1.5 seconds, then power would quickly but gradually build. I'd get full power but the response was weird.

I pulled off track and the issue went away.

It was 68F, sunny and dry. I can't find a temp gauge so I have no idea what temp the car was running at.

Anyone experienced this?

limp mode would more likely keep you from building any RPM...

more like if you flooded it the car would fall flat on its face.. no rpm build, and maybe misfire depending on how the car cuts power..

DSC cutting power to prevent you from spinning out.

On a dry straight at 80mph, that's doubtful. There's no CEL but I haven't checked for codes.

Auto? There's a gear kick down button at WOT that may be showing some trans issue.

It does sound a lot like what DSC does though, maybe a sensor issue causing DSC to cut power?

I would definitely pull codes with a BMW specific scanner.

Someone said when brakes fade the car will reduce power, I guess to nudge you into slowing down. Seems feasible but it's the first I'm hearing. Makes sense as the car worked again once it cooled down a touch.

Why are you just getting into the throttle at 80mph on a straight? You should be on throttle much earlier than that.

Brake disc overheating protection... you need to code it off. Bmw seems to have set this function to intervene very early on x28i models.

Because I thought the car was broken and was trying to figure out what was wrong. It was a nearly empty track and there were no cars around me.
