For what reason? I find it odd that the '11 doesn't have one, but if the '09-'10 has one and it fails, you have to replace it. Might as well just remove it and plug the line.

EDIT: Thread in question: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1365218 I have a 2010 and there is a pump where those 3 holes are.
Mine is a september 09 build 2010 model, no aux pump. My understanding was only 09 models had the pump, maybe very few early 2010s had it as well.

It would appear this was a flip a coin part at some point then. I have a 10/2009 build, 2010 model, and it has an aux pump. Freaking Germans.

"Hans! Do we have any spare parts?!"

"Ja, this aux water pump."

"Hand it over!"

Whirring and clicking is DDE fan running and relays energizing modules for state of readiness when door is opened or car unlocked. All BMW's do it unless they are "asleep". (doors and hood locked for a few minutes). Nothing to be concerned about. If you are stock, urea pump will run and injector will click to remove urea from the supply line back to the tank when you turn the car off(prevents freezing).
Also what Yozh said on the converters, a few minutes after shut down the turbine switch over valve returns to position.

I have a one way check valve installed before the vacuum accumulator (just like BMW literature suggests, but no actual implementation on their part) in order to keep vacuum accumulator "full" and to separate the turbo control system from the rest of the vacuum system. My turbine switchover rod releases 4 minutes after the shutdown and exactly when buzzing stops.

vacuum pump is mechanically driven off the front of one of the cams I think so the sound wouldn't be the pump running...

I'm not really concerned about a few things changing state a few minutes later, just seems like something is running for 4 minutes or so and then shuts down. I've deleted my urea tank and injector...

Yozh, where is the vacuum accumulator on these things?

My 09 has the aux electric water pump, its the only persistent code I have that won't clear and for the amount I use it, doesn't seem to be worth changing.

The code is:

Systems:
Junction Box Passenger / Beifahrer
Short circuit to positive or open circuit - additional water pump
Code: 00A6D1

Its linked to the "rest" button, this runs the aux pump to circulate coolant and keep the heater running if say you were to pull up at the grocery store, you could run the "rest" and go in shopping to come out to a hot car apparently.

I use the 'Rest' button all the time in the winter, really does help.
