Amp loom replacement
Is it possible to replace the loom in the trunk going to a hifi amp? I thought i read a while back there may be a disconnect point around the rear seats somewhere?

Never heard of a disconnect other than at the speakers.
If you want to build an entire harness you can do that or buy one from Technic. It disconnects right at the amp with the throw of a lever. google his website if you want to look at what he has to offer. What would be the point of disconnecting it in the middle? Thanks, ctuna.
Ah the point of replacing it is that i have been getting very loud rumbling static and some popping from the front speakers, even with ignition off until the car cas has shutdown (not speed related alternator whine) for some time now and as my loom is spliced into im wondering if voltages are being induced due to any potential insulation issues where the splicing is. Hence thinking of replacing just the boot part of the loom to try and get rid of this noise. Seems to mainly affect drivers speakers - his underseat stops working and the drivers door speaker distorts. All starts suddenly when driving along. (Could be losing some of the front left input signal from the headunit where its spliced in the boot i guess as then the amp is overamping a lower voltage input which would = distortion. Not sure why underseat disappears though. I am aware of prof headunit issues which may cause this also but didnt seem to have the issue when i first got the car. Although not sure if that puts deep rumbling static through all speakers in that fault scenario. Last edited by sparkymarky; 03-27-2017 at 05:41 AM.. |

Ps swap amp outputs and the fault switches to the same but on the passenger side.

The head unit is never truly off as it supplys alarms in most cars
or at least PDC. To isolate try dissonnecting the inputs to the amp or whatever you are using to feed the signal and use and external source to feed it music. |
