Ultimate Driving Machine, not.. (DEF)
Hey there everyone, Never posted here before, but for sure i have read a lot on these forums.
Recently i bought a mint 2011 335D.. about 116k miles. Drove the car for a few months, no issues what so ever.. And then one day out of the blue sky, i get an SES light.. Connected to cheap-o OBD reader, got a code for P20EE, doing some online research i found that it all leads to emissions system and its pretty damn common.. Approx ~50 miles later, i got an error on screen for "Diesel Exhaust Fluid Incorrect (Range 200...). Unfortunately i was about 350 Miles from home, and i was already on the road for quite some time. So i managed to get home and it was way too late to take care of this problem, so i parked the car and shut it down, with Range of 0 miles. Next Morning i was not able to start it of course. So i started doing some more online research, and i found that erasing the codes, will give me a 50 Mile Range. So i did that(Also one mechanic advised me to do it, but after it was done another mechanic told me it was the biggest mistake...). Week later or so i ended up finding a mechanic whom was willing to do diagnostics and try to fix the problem.. Got the car towed to him, there he ran diagnostics trying to find if it was a faulty sensor. I was nervous it was going to be a NoX sensor, and it was going to cost me quite a fortune. Luckily it was a faulty sensor inside the Urea tank. So the outcome of it, the mechanic cleaned both NoX sensors(for future), Drained the Urea Tank, cleaned it with warm water multiple times and filled up the tank with BMW Genuine DEF. Ran the tests and all the sensors were working the way they should. The range message was still on the screen after everything was done. So i was advised by the mechanic to drive the car for about an 1-1:30 hours mph+ for 100ish miles to let the sensors configure, because he had cleared all the codes after the repairs, they needed to be (i guess broken in again).. So i ended up driving for about hour and a half on a highway, did about 115 miles.. The Range message never went away, and once again it was late and i just had no more options but to take it home, and shut it off. Hour or so later i tried starting it and it was dead... I never owned a diesel car before its my first time dealing with all the emission issues that diesel car gives,im in desperate for help i have no clue whats my next step.. Please share your experience if you related or have related to the same topic. I saw a few similar topics, but not as specific as mine.. sorry if i posted about a same thing that someone allready has... |

Welcome to the forum!
The below thread may help you, but unfortunately seems to be one of the most difficult to correct, unless you get lucky. Also ask your mechanic if the replace the def tank sensor, or just cleaned it...it may still be faulty. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=P20EE |

So you still have active codes, after they have been cleared? Something else is amiss then. You may want to PM floydrodgers to see if he can offer some advice, but I'd take the car back to your mechanic and let them know the job is not done.

For what it's worth, when I had the same error and codes, it ended up being a faulty DEF metering valve that had stuck open and was overdosing. Is there any white residue on your exhaust tips? This might indicate overdosing.

There was an old post where a guy had the code you mentioned and he resolved it by cleaning the urea injector. Very easy job. Takes longer to jack the car up and remove the under panel than in does to remove the injector. Might be worth a shot.

I'd take this as an opportunity to delete the alphabet soup, get a buzzken exhaust (around 700 or so) and ship ecu for stage 2.5 tune..
