Which talks about the date being the instrument manufacturing, which sort of makes sense.
Anyway the link shows you how to unlock all the menus and gives you some idea what they are about. Most you can't do anything with, but menu 20 allows you to re-calibrate your mpg. The formula is:

Old correction value X OBC Fuel Consumption/Actual Fuel Consumption

20.01 changes the unit, 20.02 tens and 20.03 for hundreds and thousands

Menu 21.00 reset many of the menu values, which are normally are reset via iDrive.

Menu 10.4 is unusual as it count the number of days since 01.01.2000.

Those should each key off their respective reset dates, not some arbitrary base date.
