2008 e90 brake pedal has some play

So, I looked and looked and searched and searched and came to dead end.
What happens is that my brake pedal has some play, loose for a couple of millimeters, but other wise it works just fine, but I can't deal with it anymore.
The problem is that it seems that nobody has ever run into this same problem, as I couldn't find any related thread or YT video. So my intention here is first, put a video of what is like and then I will try to take the brake pedal assembly off and see if I can fix it myself prior to buying a new one which is about $90, OEM from ECS, not crazy though.
My main concern here is that to take the assembly off I will detach it from the brake booster so I'm not 100% sure that this job will need after a fluid flush? Am I overthinking it? As seen in the attached, I'm not sure if it will lose pressure thus needing a brake fluid work to some extent?

Thanks to any advise someone may provide and of course looking forward to help if run into the same thing. Next day off I have is Tuesday so, don't expect video until then.

Maybe start with the Delrin pedal bushings? They are dirt cheap, and same as the clutch pedal bushings. $17 shipped if I remember correctly.

You're overthinking it. I had the same issues on my car when I replaced my brake pads, rotors, hoses, and master cyclinder. I bled the system like a normal car with the gravity method. But afterwards I noticed the pedal was a little soft, had a few milimeters of no resistance then bite. I consulted in two of my friends who are master techs at BMW dealers and they told me I needed to bleed cycle the ABS pump while adding fresh fluid. It's common for people to forget or not know about that step and cause this issue.

I know what you're saying but it's not the same, it is not that the pedal is soft in the first inch it does not apply any brake force, it is like something within the pedal assembly has worn and has a free play that I can reproduce with the tips of my fingers, using no strengh at all. I owe the video is it will explain by itself.

I'm having similar issues with my brakes...it also feels like the brakes are sticking when I take my foot off the pedal and am starting to accelerate. Any resolution to your issues, OP?

Hi Arby, I haven't had the time to check this but It's def on my pending list. I will at some point if the weather allows, if not I will have to wait until Spring...but I have the exact same symptoms you describe.

Thanks - I wish someone who has corrected this problem would magically drop the solution in our laps!!

I'm pretty sure the brakes do this on purpose.. sedans especially large/luxury oriented ones have this to smooth out initial brake application. you could also have air in your system.

Finally got the time to look around the brake pedal and shoot a video for those who are wondering what the problem is or think it's normal. It's pretty self explanatory and I think the problem is the pin that goes thru the pedal assembly, the play happens there and the sound is coming from there too, item #6 in the diagram on the first post. The part is inexpensive but I will have to investigate how to actually replace it as it has a criclip, #7 (name in realoem.com) or securing clip... Will keep updating this thread. thanks!

The clip pops off and the pin slides out. I just disconnected it a couple weeks ago to change my master cylinder. Although I didn't pay close attention, I don't think there's a replaceable bushing or anything like that to tighten it up and it's just a simple metal pin so unless yours has some excessive wear you're not going to find much relief there.

I guess if you wanted to get stupid about it you could pull the pedal arm, drill it out, and install a nylon sleeve that would fit tightly around the pin but if you're off at all you've just created a bigger problem.

Ok good, but at least what you say gives me the idea that it's easy to take out and then put back in. I can take the pin out and do a better inspection of it and see if it in fact it's worn. If it's not or does not show signs of exesive wear I will have to keep looking into this issue.

Thanks a lot for your input LMB335IS

It's been a while but I have changed the pin and clip (like $3 in parts, inexpensive) and did not make any difference. I'm almost giving up on this one, but I will try to do one more dig and investigation on the brake and will update again this thread. Thanks all!
