Trying to disable TPMS system. No joy. Any ideas?

I have now spent a significant amount of time trying to disable my TPMS system on my 2009 335i. I've ready all of the forum discussions on this that I could find but I I couldn't find any that describe the same problem and solution.

I have TPMS sensors in my winter wheels, but I don't really want to go through the hassle of switching them to my summer wheels, and I like the concept of monitoring wheels using the wheel rotational speed instead (FTM).

After pulling the TPMS fuse, deleting $2VB from the VO, and default coding CAS, KOMBI, and NFRM the little tire warning light has disappeared which is an improvement. However the larger warning icon (flat tire with exclamation light) still appears in yellow briefly at startup and triggers the little warning triangle and shows the larger warning symbol when triggering "CHECK CONTROL".

It appears that one of the ECUs still thinks the car has the RDC module installed. However it doesn't set any codes or show any errors (that I could find) to debug the problem.

The steps I had taken to disable TPMS are:
  • Pulled fuse 27. And double checked that it was the only fuse listed for the TPMS.
  • Delete $2VB and added $265 for VO for modules CAS, & NFRM using Expertmode in NCS. Performed FA_WRITE for both of those modules. Note FRM was not listed when changing CPU for the VO. I also tried this originally just by deleting $2VB with the same results
  • Default coded BSDC, CAS, KOMBI, and NFRM after changing the VO (SG_Codieren job executed for BSDC, CAS, KOMBI, NFRM). Used Expertmode in NCS
  • Verified that all of the following were configured as expected
  • CIC: RPA_CIC : aktiv
  • CIC: RDC : nicht_aktiv
  • CIC: RDC_SAFETY : nicht_aktiv
  • KOMBI: RDC_ALIVE : nicht_aktiv
  • KOMBI: MMI_ENA_RPA_RDC : aktiv
  • KOMBI: RDC_VERBAUT : nicht_aktiv
  • KOMBI: DSC_MIT_RPA_CC : aktiv
  • KOMBI: RDC_DISP_SWITCH : nicht_aktiv
  • XDSC: AUSSTATTUNG_RPA : aktiv
  • Clear codes using INPA and checked that no new codes existed
  • Clear codes and check the status using ISTA+
  • Triggered the tire monitoring system using "RESET" from the dash
  • Drove the car for a few KM to see if it would clear

No luck.

This is the list of ECUs in my car according to 2JBBF, 2URAD, 62BMO, ABG, AMPT, BSDC, CAS, EGS, EKP, FAS, FZD, IHK, KOMBI, LSMC, NFRM, PDC, PGS, RLS, RSMC, TCUM, TGBT, TGFT, VGSG
Should any additional modules be default coded?
Should I try to find the RDC module and unplug it? My car is a US car with a build date of 2009-08-31 which is right before they changed to the newer system.

Does anyone have any ideas what to debug?

Just to add a bit more information.
When I hold down the switch while the icon is displayed it shows the error "CC-ID 50". I assume this is the same error that would be displayed when the computer thinks that one of the tires is flat based on the rotational speed. But I'm not sure on that.

A quick google resulted in the following:

CC-ID 50 – Tyre Monitoring Failure
CC-ID 50 – Runflat Indicator Failed

I also double checked the tire pressures and they were fine. 33psi on both fronts, and 37psi on both rears. I am running a square tire setup in case it matters.

I still think the problem is that one of the modules hasn't been updated. The only thing I found though is that even though the CIC module does not show up in the list of modules in NCS, I can still see the RPA_CIC, RDC, and RDC_SAFETY settings in the FSW_PSW.TRC file. But I haven't been able to find them when I read each of the module individually. That seems odd, but the settings are still the correct ones so I'm not sure it is the problem.

If you pulled the TPMS fuse, then your CIC should not work as they should share the same fuse.

I would recommend disconnecting the RDC (TPMS) module and re-installing the fuse.

Thanks. Unfortunately that didn't help.

My car doesn't actually have iDrive/Navigation which explains why the CIC module isn't present (I assume).

I found the RDC module in the trunk behind the carpet above the battery. Pretty easy to disconnect by removing the plastic plugs holding in the carpet and a single torx screw holding in the module.

Disconnected the module. Started the car. No dice. Reinstalled the fuse (27) with the RDC disconnected. Same yellow tire warning. Verified that the VO still had $2VB removed. CIC module was not present as expected.

I'm going to try removing the $265 option from the VO. I added that after I found a forum discussion where it was required to enable FTM but that was for an X1 not an E90.

Otherwise I'm running out of ideas since this has apparently worked for others.

Another issue maybe is that your tire pressure has too great of a difference between the front and rears. Try setting them all to the same pressure, taking it for a short spin and see if that clears it up.

That's a good idea too. I believe my pressures are close to the recommended settings, but it is definitely worth a check. It would be nice to know if the error is caused by the FTM system. It might take a long drive to make sure though. I'll try that tomorrow.

You should know within a few feet of driving to see if the error still exists. Good luck.

Sadly still no luck. I'm running out of ideas.

Tonight I did the following:
  • Set the tire pressure on all 4 wheels to be the same (34 psi)
  • Took the car for a drive. Still showing the warning.
  • Change the VO to drop the $265 code (since I wasn't quite sure what it was for)
  • Verified that the VO did not have the $2VB code for all 3 ECUs (CAS, FRM, NFRM)
  • After verifying the VO, default coded CAS, KOMBI, NFRM and BDSC (using SA_CODIEREN in Expertmode
  • Verified the config of all modules matched what I posted earlier
  • Cleared codes
  • Reset the tire pressure system using the dash

The "Tire/Exclamation Mark" still shows up when the car starts. Getting pretty frustrated

I assume a lot of people have tried to disable the TPMS system since the tire sensors on the earlier e9x cars are likely running out of battery.

Has anyone else run into this problem before?
