Whining noise after clutch replacement
So i just got my clutch and flwheel replaced + CDV delete. OEM flywheel and a 335IS clutch assembly on my 07 335i took the car from the shop everything runing smooth and all once i got home i noticed a sort of woooooooo on idle, if i push the clutch pedal it goes away once released it comes back. Its not loud at all you got to pay attention to be able to hear it. But i heard it and now its buging me. Called back my mechanic and i'll be bringing it back for him to check it out. Now i read around didn't find much info some say it would go away after a while others say that the throw out bearing could have been damaged during the instal but if it was the case it would shatter or something
![]() Any input on this? i know a lot of guys have the IS clutch in do they all do this? M3's seem to have clutch shatter but didn't find anything on this one Thank you ![]() |

My IS clutch doesn't do anything like that at all -- no sound like that or any sound that goes away when I depress the clutch. Definitely bring it back in.

I've had that from day one (exactly as described) since installing the 335is clutch. I didn't notice it right away mainly because I probably subconsciously usually have the clutch pedal pushed down most of the time. I planned on taking it back but 20k miles later I haven't lol. There are several potential reasons for the noise but any cause short of loose flywheel bolts I'm not willing to have the trans dropped.

Hello everyone,
A similar noise happens after my 335is clutch kit / new OEM flywheel install a few days ago. There is a slight whining noise at idle and also when accelerating, coming from the clutch+flywheel area (not inside the gearbox itself). Sounds like a supercharger whine when accelerating, and more low-pitched when idling. It disappears when the clutch is pressed, but not suddenly, it takes a second or so, so it seems to be in sync with the gearbox shaft. Bugs the hell out of me, because I was hoping to tackle all the noises from the car and now instead of removing them, new ones have appeared. Changing the gearbox oil did not solve the problem. The only rational explanation that I have given the symptoms is that a bearing inside the gearbox was forced/damaged during install, by forcing the gearbox in without properly aligning the clutch disc. The clutch disc itself is obviously in sync with the gearbox shaft and could also make some noise while moving through the air. Given the fact that the throwout bearing is in permanent contact with the clutch plate fingers (it spins all the time in this transmission design, unlike the popular belief) it can be a (very remote) possibility that the throwout bearing is the cause. But other opinions are welcome ! Last edited by kevinlevrone; 04-30-2017 at 08:12 PM.. |
