I considered this as well. To me it wasn't just the navigation. There are other features that you can only get with the screen/i drive.

My Navigation is absolute crap. I use my phone 99% of the time unless it's a pre-planned trip that will take more than 1 hour to complete, and is in an unfamiliar area. But having that iDrive screen for everything else is so handy.

meh, I use my nav all the time. I prefer it over using a phone as its less distracting if you set it before you roll. Since I own a company its handy to have recently used addresses in a list that I can scroll to when I need to visit a client. I purchased an enet cable and gave myself lifetime map updates.

For trips I'd really like is waze on my display. Especially for the helpful notification to watch out for hidden State Troopers aka tax collectors with guns. LOL, not even the IRS shows up with a gun and knocks on my window demanding money. I find running a valentine radar detector and waze helps to even the balance of power between motorists and our revenue-driven traffic enforcement.
