The benefit of using cooling dog bed
I am planning to buy my dog a new bed and have seen this canine cooler online. I am a bit confused with the details; does that mean that I can only use the product only if I add water in it? Have you guys tried to use one before, is it really effective to ease the dehydration of my pet?

The previous 7 posts don't seem spammy or related, so I'm going with the benefit of the doubt.
OP: It's gimmicky. The advertisement is full of weasel words ("seems to", "helps with", "Customers say" etc.) you're paying $50USD for a plastic mat that you fill with water. Without any active cooling, it's going to be the same temperature as the floor you put it on - so if your dog sits on it, great, it's probably a nice comfortable waterbed. I know if I bought one, my dog would lay down beside it on the hard floor. I also wouldn't want to put it anywhere where that water is going to do damage after your pooch has chewed a hole in it. (again, I don't know your dog, but I know what mine would do) The best thing your dog will appreciate on a hot day to "ease the dehydration of my pet" is a regularly replenished bowl of cool water. The bigger the better. |

Whenever I am required to sleep with the dogs, I find only the big one take up too much room. So before you invest in a cooling bed, you might want to invest in a larger bed instead.
That way when the boy dog rolls over to sleep on his back, dem nutz ain't in yo face. |

Y'all might just know us for our kangaroos and killer drop-bears, but here in Australia we really do have a saying "a three dog night". Literally, it's a night that's cold enough that you're sleeping with three dogs to keep warm. Three Dog Night |

Ditto on the cold water option, more than a cooling bed. Our cats go nuts over a water fountain drinking station, or ice in their drink bowls (OK, they are sort of immersed in that 'first world life'). I'd go with those options first.

We got a couple for our dogs and found them of limited use in our particular situation. The way the beds cool is essentially to match the temperature of the floor. So it works best if you have cool tile somewhere. You can't put them on hardwood because osmosis will draw moisture out and damage the floor, and our house is mostly hardwood with tile in some places where the dogs don't hang out. So in our case, they just didn't work out. $10 kiddie pool filled with cold water seems to make them happier.
