I have a 2006 330i with bad pixels on the radio. A friend gave me a radio from a 2009 328i. Although the radio part numbers do not match, can I interchange the face plates or the display board without having to go through any type of coding?

You would be better off just buying the pixel repair kit
sold or ebay for around 100 bucks or send it in to one
of the places that repair these for less than 200 US.
Unless you are incredibly lucky with the two cars programmed
for the same sound system and options programming is
necessary when swapping head units.

You might be able to find a coder in the San Diego
area that can help if you swap units.

If you send it in be sure to write down the serial number so you get yours back as it has the programming for your vehicle.
