335i engine problem
I Am fighting jiffy lube in regards to changing oil in my car improperly. Got oil changed, started to receive a lifter sound. Ping. After oil changed no leaks no burning, nothing. Engine locked up approx 5 months later. Before engine locked I went back to jiffy lube, they gave me a courtesy top off, and added 4 quarts of oil to turn the light off. Engine locked next day. Oil was drained to reveal 5 quarts total, meaning the car either burned 6 quarts of oil im 5 months, only 6k miles or there was only one Quart added originally. If the car burned that much oil there usually should be some sort of smoke ND or residue. One long time mechanic said this was typical to burn oil this way on this engine . He also said there was no way the engine would run on one Quart of oil and wouldn't start. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I would love to get as many other bmw 335 owners to back me up on this one to take liffy lube down, along with my statement of facts expert witness etc. Is this typical with any of u to burn this much oil to lock up the engine etc. Unfortunately I already had a light on the inside regarding an electrical short, so I didn't notice the problem. Thanks.

there's no way you could have ran the engine for 6,000 miles / 5 months with only 1 quart, that's LOL if you think that's what happened.
Furthermore the "low oil" message gets displayed on your cluster when you need to add 1 quart. It wouldn't matter if you had other lights, that one will display too. Your engine most definitely has other issues unrelated to an oil change. FYI: you can (and should) check your oil level through the idrive or through both your instrument cluster. the notification that comes on when you're 1qt low looks like this http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1343062058

So if the car says you are 1/2 way... you just need to add 1/2 of one quart and then wait a few days of driving for it to "update" the oil level. If you keep adding in oil qt after oil qt... in the hopes that it updates in a few minutes... you are sadly mistaken. I suspect they probably over filled your motor with oil when they "topped" it up. Hopefully you have some paper work that says they added 4 qts of oil for free and you now have a case against them in court... lawyer up! |
