Wheel Squeek? from passenger side
Hi Chaps
For the last week of so I have heard a squeek from the passenger side wheel area (its not a mouse!) I have opened the window and can hear a squeek noise eminating from the area. The noise only seems to occur once I pull away at slow speeds, then appears to cease. I don't think it happens upon braking. However sometimes I can hear it when driving at normal speeds. Any idea what this could be? Stone in the caliper? wheel problem etc? May take to the stealer.... Thanks! |

I had a wheel bearing go on the Z4 and at first the noise was pretty intermittent. It really does sound like a squeak more than anything else. When I booked the car into the dealer to have it looked at, they claimed they couldn't hear anything, so I told them to put the windows and roof down and drive it again... they immediately got back to me after that and agreed it was a bearing on the rear passenger wheel! Good luck.
Gordon.

just called the dealer, loan car is not available until 10th Dec, this may be a dumb question! but I presume I can contact any dealer? i.e. it doesn't have to be the dealer I purchased the vechicle from?

Usually the dealer that does the servicing/repairs comments on the fact that I didn't actually buy the car from them!! Gordon.

dazzapb........ I had exactly the same problem. Annoying squeak when I pulled away particularly when driving around town. I mentioned it at the first service and both rear brake pads were replaced under warranty. I've had no further problems.

The squeak could also be the brake pad moving in the caliper. Have your dealer check and perhaps reset the brake pads

I occasionally get a knock from my from passenger side wheel when I go over a speed bump. I took it to the dealer when the car was new and surprise surprise they could not find anything.
It still happens yet but not all the time. I am hoping for it to get worse so that they can fix whatever the hell it is.

2900 miles!!! my god, isn't your car new?
![]() I guess what we see on the I-drive display is conditional then? i.e. if you drive like sterling moss and are heavy on the brakes, then the remaning distance will adjust accordingly? Cheers Last edited by dazzapb; 11-22-2007 at 07:35 AM.. |

My car's brakes squeak first thing in the morning when I reverse off my drive. The E46 had a separate hub and shoes for the parking brake. These shoes are only in contact with the hub when stationary but pick up all kinds of gunk from the road. To stop the squeaking etc, I read somewhere that you need to lightly apply the handbrake whilst on the move to clean the shoes.
Don't know if this applies to the E90 also.

Its the same design I think, most cars you put the handbrake on thats it, the car doesnt move, E46 and E91 both roll a fraction as the handbrake takes up slack - reminds me of the transmission break on my old landrover.

I'm also hearing a squeeking noise on my car, and it seems to be coming from the passenger side, but I can't be 100% sure. (Note: opposit to yours, because your car is RHD)
And, same as in your case, it only happens when I'm pulling away at low speeds. The interesting thing is that the sound isn't present when I let the car pull away without applying gas... But when I apply gas, the squeek is there.. I currently have 13,500 km on my car. Gonna get it checked in a month, when I visit my dealer to put on summer tires... |
