Running 225/40 255/40 on xi?

I'm about to purchase new tires and I'm currently running 225/40 front 255/35 rear on my 2008 328xi. I'm wondering if I can run 225/40 front 255/40 rear without having any issues with my all wheel drive. Any advice is appreciated!

Nope nope nope.

You need to run 255/35 in the rear. There's a reason it comes with those sizes from the factory. 255/40 is way too tall to go with the fronts for xi.

Forgot to mention I'm on 18s.

My next question is how are forum members running square setups with xi? (ex 235/40/18) where as im wanting to run a square profile but staggered width (225/40/18 front 255/40/18 rear)

I assumed 18s based off those sizes.

Why would you want 'square' profile? 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 have the nearly the same sidewall sizes. The sidewall size is a direct correlation with the tire width.

(225*.4*2)/25.4 = 7.08in of total sidewall

(255*.35*2)/25.4 = 7.03in of total sidewall

(255*.4*2)25.4 = 8.03in of total sidewall

A square setup is the same width front and rear. I run 255/35/18 on all 4.

Ahh yes that makes sense thank you for the clarification! Looks like I'll be sticking with my original setup

What model are you running 255/35/18 on? What are your rim size and offset? Did you have to do anything to prevent them from rubbing?

Pre lci E90.

18x8.5 et23, lowered on bilstein b12. Never had any issues with rubbing.

I am pre-lci as well with eibach pro kit springs and bilstein sport shocks. I'm at 38 front 40 rear but am running 12mm spacers in the front and 18mm rear with no issues at all

I have an LCI E90 335xi and I can run 255/35/18's on a mild drop with no rubbing and no spacers. Running square Apex Arc-8's (18x9 et30).

The only time I run a square setup (235/40 18) is in the winter so my front and rear tread width are the same - really makes for a stable ride in snow.

You can do F 235/40 and R 265/35 if you want wider tires and a bit more fill in the fender gap on the xi, otherwise stick to the stock size.
