E93 Uneven Tyre Wear

Hi guys, recently got a rear tye changed and it has some serious damage. The inside edge is completly worn away, the rest of the tyre is fine over 4mm of thread. The other side is the same but not as bad.

What could cause this?

Is it safe to drive on the motorway?

Thanks

You need to have a full 4 wheel alignment once your tyres are fitted. Are they run flats?

It is common on Bridgestone RFT tyres. My fronts went the same way, however I had done 50,000 miles on them,so can't complain. My alignment was spot on too!

That's down to alignment issues most definitely. It isn't normal at all especially if you have some 4mm left on the rest of the tyre tread.

To scrub just the one edge like that means the toe is out. This could just be alignment or maybe work bushes etc causing the alignment to be out.

Every E92 I've owned does this to the inner edges of the rears. Same with a company 520d. And my 435d .It's the way BMW set them up.To help spread the load more evenly, I started running 41 PSi in my rears 255/35/19.

I would not drive on that; looks like the canvas is showing. Get the car 4 wheel laser aligned and new tyres. I bought my previous car as a BMW AUC and the tyres were all like that - not as bad, but similar were patterns. It cured mine, although I also went non-RFT at the same time.

Suspension check, geo & new rears, as for driving on tyre in that condition...seriously? I wouldn't want to drive 2 miles never mind 420

As your going to be needing new rears Goodyear F1s are well worth considering

I run 44psi on the rears and 38psi on the fronts on 19's. I get 20k out of the rears and 50k out of the fronts. Alignment is critical as mentioned above

That tyre is illegal to drive on as it has cords showing.

You need an alignment done when changing the tyres as they have worn incorrectly, but could also be a worn bushing causing the wear.

Are you on runflats? If so, that could be the problem. People claim to have got rid of them and that alone has solved it.
