e90 xDrive Torsion Strut/Lower Control Arm
I'm working on fixing some issues I'm having with some of my front control arms/torsion strut. I'm not sure which part is which, and what I actually need to replace.
I know the bushing went out on 1 if not more of the front control arms. I have vibrations and steering issues under braking. I'm having trouble figuring out if I need to replace just the torsion struts? Here's the View post on imgur.com .Torsion/Traction strut. Part# 31126768983. or Control arm/wishbone Part# 31126768989 Looking at this DIY it looks like the layout of the front suspension is different on non xDrive cars. I also don't have obvious oil pooling below the bushing. Anyone have feedback on what I need to replace? Thanks! |

The only bushing per se is the tension arm bushing at the rear. It leaks and breaks down. You have 3 options from worst to best. Stock bushing replacement. Poly bushings from strong flex. Or syncro design bearings.

Thanks Jet,
So looking taking another look at my the pictures it looks like the torsion arm bushings are pretty much gone. Do they sell arms with pre installed poly bushings, or will I need to buy just the poly bushing and get them pressed? Thanks. |

The only pre-assembled tension struts are from Syncro Design, with their bearings. These are the nicest, but most expensive option.
You can also get Strongflex poly bushings. They come in two hardness levels and need to be pressed into the arms. I have the red (less-hard) bushings and it was no big deal for my mechanic to install them with a press. They're listed as "front wishbone bush 4x4" http://www.strongflex.eu/en/45-e90-e91-e92-xi-4x4-05-11 They're shipped from Poland but when I ordered them they got here in a reasonable amount of time. This is the big huge thread on this topic in the xi section: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1108425 |

I don't have them, I have the softer, red Strongflex bushings. I forget the exact price because you have to message them thru Facebook, but the Syncro Design arms are something like $400+ if I recall. Whereas the Strongflex bushings were like 50 bucks plus maybe an hour of labor to remove the control arms, replace the bushings and reinstall them. I was redoing my whole suspension in one swoop so didn't want to spend the extra coin on the Syncro Design pieces.
