Automatic transmission service
I know this is a E 90 forum but e9X shares the same automatic transmission as E70, hence I am posting here. I'm hoping someone has done this work for ZF6HP transmission.
I noticed a leak in my 2008 X5 3.0si from the transmission. (Picture below) This truck has 85,000 miles. It is time for transmission service (no matter what BMW says) . the leak could be from the pan and/or common problem on these - "Mechatronics sealing sleeve". Has anyone done the transmission service or has a recommendation for a local shop that can tackle this problem - any experience and cost estimate? Any suggestion for buying parts, I learned that you have to use the exact same fluid that is in here. Can't mix since we won't be flushing all. Any input or help welcome |

Just the most completely wrong forum to post this in you've cut out 99% of the readers to this message board
Pic is difficult to determine things are you sure it's transmission fluid?? Sometimes the underbelly cover... Well oil could be leaking from anywhere and thats finally the spot it can drip out I.e. The underbelly cover that helps with aerodynamics catches fluid from who knows where and then drips out in the few spots not covered by the cover |

Strictly BMW in Bellevue and Eastside Bavarian in Issaquah are the indy shops I use. Either can do fluid changes.
The transmission pan needs to come off to drain these transmissions, as it incorporates the filter. As you mention, the sleeve could also leak. |

As I mentioned in another post, I have been using LiquiMoly's fluds in the transmission now for over 10k and I am REALLY happy with it.
When I did mine I did the full service, ran the car for a week, then drained and topped off cold with a fresh 5L once I had about 250 miles on the new fluid. When you do the change, you can't get it all out of the torque converter, this helps to get most of the particulate from the clutch discs out. I'm refreshing a few L every 20k now as I want this gearbox to last till the wheels fall of the car. Once you do this you could likely forget about the transmission till you dump the car in 100k.
