Interior trim
I've got the brushed aluminium trim on my e93 and not so long ago I wrapped it in carbon but I just can't take to it, something about it just doesn't look right and I think I want all the trim to be black.
Is it possible to have the standard trim powder coated or painted black so that the texture in the trim is retained? Has anyone tried this? I've tried searching but all I come across is endless threads about wrapping or spraying the wooden trim, nothing about the aluminium trim. Any help or input would be appreciated. |

A cheap, easy and good looking option is to simply wrap it in Alcantara. Go to any good furniture shop upholsterer or Google. You can either get it self adhesive or buy the glue in a can. You can even mould in a BMW logo easily enough for that OEM look.
Problem with piano black finish is that it marks very easily and always looks dirty with dust and fingermarks. Personaly I like the aluminium trim though on LCI cars the brushed version does have vertical machining mark going all along the top of the dash panel, which is a bit of a let down. From memory BMW in 2004-2005 were the first to really introduce a proper aluminium dash and to my eyes its a design classic. It does scratch easily though which can look a bit crap... |

Plus one for the piano black option, It looks great however as you can see from the pics I ended up wrapping the centre ( gear stick surround ) in matte carbon as its in a bad area for picking up scratches from keys etc so wanted something a little more durable, still goes well with the rest of the trim
