White Smoke????
Hey guy and before you begin yes i know im a new member just got a 2008 335xi sedan and loving it so far, so hello nice to meet you guys . yes i tried to search and did read up on what it could be and i also had a friends shop take a look but it never has any smoke when its there. so far no cause and no solution
so the problem. less than a week of owning the car it starts to have a white smoke coming out of the left exhaust. there is no sweet smell others have said would have been coolant. does not seem to be a turbo seal because it would have an oily exhaust? (not sure on that one someone at the shop said so). i checked the coolant and oil levels and it seem to be fine no changes that i can recognize. the smoke seems to go away after 5 minutes and only seems to do it once it is stopped over a period of time. not really sure now long because sometimes it doesn't do it at all. on some of the threads they said that a oil catch can might be the problem. is this true? i will try and post a video of the smoke when it happens again. hopefully someone has some knowledge on this. until than i will for an answer |

maybe its just condensation from cold startups in the morning? How thick is the white smoke? and under what circumstance do you see the white smoke?

I have the same issue. Only occurs on cold starts after that smoke never comes back until the next morning, after starting up I can hear small subtle popping sound and I can feel it shake all so lightly. I only started noticing this after I changed the plugs after I got a misfire in cylinder 5.
Seem like shes burning oil as well because I've been using Liqui Moly and this is the first time where my oil gauge is at the middle level. Friends think it could be head gasket. I just want a second opinion. Included a video Last edited by code85; 08-05-2016 at 11:31 PM.. |

I need some advice as well!!!!
My wife and I own a 2011 X-5 35d. the other night on my way home from work , I stopped at a stop sign and as I had proceeded down the street, I at first thought it was dust as I was driving though a construction zone, I got to the next stop sign and as I moved through the intersection a HUGE CLOUD OF WHITE SMOKE followed the car. I pulled over and shut the car off for a while. Started her up no smoke at first or while at idle. I pushed on the throttle pedal and not too much smoke while not moving. started moving again plenty of smoke. and drove home at about 10 to 20 miles per hour with not too much smoke. what could it be??? any ideas????? |

White smoke out of the exhaust is typically the sign of water getting into the combustion chamber and usually the result of a leaky head gasket. Keep an eye on your coolant level.
