Signs turbo need work?
I've got the bank 1 turbo out and have been looking it over. What are augns it needs to be rebuilt? It feels like one of the impellers has the slightest bit of play but it's so slight I can't tell if it's mind games or not.
Anything else show obvious signs if issues? |

View post on imgur.com View post on imgur.com So background: The one day I replumbed the intake side of the turbos, I found a small piece of metal in the air filter. No idea where it came from and it was in the back filter of the DCI. I looked it over, contemplated long and hard about where it came from and could not for the life of me figure it out. Well, yesterday I get the turbo2 out and i wiggled the impeller but I must have not really looked at it. Today at work I got the remaining three lines off and cleaned those up, and then BAM! Right in my face i see the broken fins and the one major break. Thankfully it somehow shot up the intake pipe and fell into the filter and didn't recirculate through the motor! So unfortunately lucky. |

Holy crap that's insane. Glad your motor didn't get damaged.

Yikes! Make double extra sure you got all the pieces! I'd pull the FMIC if I were you, just in case. If you find parts in there I'd continue removing parts up to and including the intake manifold and clean them all out. Normally in cases like this the FMIC can gather metal parts.... get 'em out!!! I also advise making double sure that your BOV is functioning properly.
Good luck and keep us posted. Chris |

Thanks Chris! I have pulled the fmic and cleaned it, an I didn't see or hear anything in there so guessing it's clean. I have diverter valves, so that means I don't have a bov, correct? I'll pull them and clean them.
Appreciate it! |
