The PDC button is in conjunction with front and rear PDC...i.e. the button (if so equipped, is used to toggle front PDC on/off). US spec e90s come with rear PDC only, hence no dash button / i-drive option

wait ..so there is no button ..but is there an optical display on the iDrive screen for US cars?
and also is there a way to shut off the beeping or only use the PDC when you choose to (manually) or it is always configured to automatically turn on when put in reverse?

hmmm...actually not entirely sure if there is a visual display on i-drive...I know the e60, e63 and the e65/66 has it but they have the full PDC (i.e. front and back).
Rear PDC is auto on upon reverse. One thing you might like to know, its not like most cars with rear parking sensor, PDC only beeps when the car's rear is close to an obstacle...so you only start to hear the beeps when you are in close proximity of something. So its not as intrusive as you are hoping it won't be...hope that helps.

There is a visual display as well as audio.
It automatically displays on the IDrive Screen when you put the car in reverse.....unless you have not hit "accept" then only the beeps. It can be enabled or disabled through the main menu, no switch. It's all or nothing. I don't mind the beeping given the short duration of backing up. Last edited by 330eye; 03-26-2006 at 02:35 AM.. |

In the UK Rear PDC is standard on the "SE" and M-Sport models. Front PDC is an option.
I have Front/Rear PDC and iDrive. I have a PDC button below the Nav DVD slot. In my configuration: When reverse is selected or the PDC button is activated, the iDrive display switched to PDC mode and the PDC sound is activated. The display shows a rough profile of the obstructions. The sound is a different pitch for front/rear and supposedly comes from the speaker nearest the obstruction (although I don't normally take note of that extra info). The profile displayed is continually variable but is coloured in green, yellow and red zones. The beeping sound becomes more rapid as you get closer and becomes continuous at 9-12 inches from the obstruction. The PDC then remains on until either you drive for a certain distance / exceed a particular speed or hit the PDC button. I can't comment authoriatively on cars without front PDC, but I suspect that PDC mode turns on only when you are in reverse. therefore there would not be a need for the PDC button. |

like others have said. PDC activates when you throw it in reverse. you can turn the chime off via the idrive screen. there is a visual display that shows different colors depending on the proximity to the object.
the button is only on cars with FRONT PDC. the US doesnt offer it.

Here is a picture of the rear of my car. The sensors aren't very noticable (and my car is Titanium Silver).
