Driveshaft Clunking in 1st gear.

So last week while pulling out I noticed a clunking sound coming from under the center console only in 1st gear at low rpms. I ordered up a new flex disk and center driveshaft bearing support.

Last night I changed everything out. Flex disk showed signed of fatigue and the center support bearing was ripped from the housing on the one side. I thought great, the new parts will fix this right up.

Get everything back together and the clunking noise remains. Nothing changed...

Again it only occurs at low rpms and only from what I can tell in 1st gear.

Any suggestions on where to look next?

THANKS!!!

Did you preload the center support beating?

After doing a quick google search I seemed to have failed to preform this step. Will this cause this issue?

Yes, and premature failure of the CSB and flexdisc/guibo

Thank you for your reply. I will preload the bearing and report back.

Preloading the bearing, while important, likely won't fix the issue here.

While you're down there, upgrade your trans mounts. Easy/cheap mod that might help fix your problem. Either way, it's a good upgrade to have regardless.

Also, check your trans fluid level while you're at it.

Anything past that, give your diff bushings a once over as well. Might be worth looking into motor mounts too, depending on your mileage; especially since you've found the CSB and guibo to be in such bad shape.

Noted, thank you.

The car has about 52k miles. Still fairly low. I will order the bushings, inspect the other bushings and fix preload.

I would imagine with the higher hp/tq figures im running the bushing are seeing alot higher load then intended for.

Did you pull the 2 ends of the driveshaft apart? If so, you most likely didn't mark the existing balance point, thus your driveshaft is now unbalanced. The only way is to get the shaft rebalanced.
The tell-tale system is clunking and or feeling like you're driving over rumble strips when taking off from a standstill

I did separate the 2 however I marked and realigned them when I put them back together.
