What should I do?
Hey guys,
I am looking to get new wheels. My question is what should I do with my current tires? They are about 1 year old so about 15k miles on them. I want to get 18 in wheels, but my current tires are 17 in. Should I just get new 17 I need wheels or get 18 in wheels and new tires again? What do I do with the old tires, if I go bigger? |

I would just hold off until you run the tires down. I was in the same boat as you and wanted 18" wheels while I still had some meat on my 17" tires (PSS). I just couldn't bear throwing them out or selling them at a huge discount. Thus, I waited until my old tires were worn down. Then, when I had to get new tires I just went ahead and bought new wheels as well. Went from Style 159 17x8 with 225/45R17 PSS to Avant Garde M310 18x9 with 245/40R18 PS4S. Otherwise, if money is not a concern or if they are rubbish tires, I'd just throw them out, sell them, use them as a backup set or have some fun and burn some rubber...

I have bfgoodrich GeForce comp2 tires. They are definitely pretty good tires and I don't want to throw them out but the hassle of trying to sell them seems like a big hassle.

How old are you? I presume you are a millennial?
I hope selling used tires to buy new ones you don't actually need is the biggest hassle you have to face in your life lol FF already gave you the best advice. Take the loss of throwing them out, deal with the hassle of selling, or run them bare and get new ones. It's pretty much common sense. |

FWIW ... you're not really going to feel any performance/handling differences as it's only 1" difference ... if anything your tires may feel a bit less compliant over bumps. As far as aesthetics, it's not really a noticeable difference either, as you're only looking at .5" difference top and bottom of the rim; so from a distance there's really not enough difference between 17's and 18's to make anyone take notice. The only reason I can see is if you want to replace/upgrade your wheels and the ones you want only come in 18" at the smallest ... so if you're wanting an improvement performance/handling difference it's best to go up 2" ... otherwise you're just wasting money ... unless you're ok with that. However going up 2" will definitely give you a less compliant ride over bumps. ... just my $.02 |

Was thinking of going 18's because it seems like the wheels i like has 18's at the smallest. But that might not be the case anymore. |
