Black trim pealing/buffed off!

Bought a used 09
Look beautiful but on closer inspection noticed the edge of the black painted trim all around the car and even the two strips on he roof are pealing and edges look like they were buffed down to the metal during a detail (most likely during multiple details in the past)

Is it something that can be replace or should it be repainted...I don't want overspray everywhere so it'll look like the car was in an accident...
But I hate that I can see the aluminum coming through the black trim!
Any suggestions?

If the paint was burned through, the only way to repair it is to either repaint it or replace the trim.

A reputable body shop should take the proper precautions to cover up the entire vehicle other than what is being painted to avoid overspray on the surrounding areas. In the event that overspray does happen to land on another area, it can be easily removed by a variety of methods including detailng clay, solvents, and paint correction.

This photo shows heavy overspray being removed from the painted trim on a Mercedes.

This article shows an extreme case of overspray removal.
