Volume buttons sticking on steering wheel

The volume buttons on my steering wheel have suddenly become very sticky. Has anyone had this issue and found a solution?

I don't believe that i spilt anything on them. I played a round of golf and on my way home they were just less responsive.

Electrical contact cleaner that is SAFE ON PLASTICS can be found at Home Depot in the low voltage area of electrical isle for $6. I'd spray it on a microfiber clothe and whip away while focusing on gaps between buttons and mounting.
