You need to change that fluid asap!
There's youtube videos on how to syphon this out, watch those to familiarise yourself and just do it, steering will be so much smoother day and night difference! It's really easy to do, half an hour job in total. Basically what you do is buy 1l of fluid (find out if ATF of CHF) and then you syphon old fluiod out from the tank and replace with new fluid. Take the car for a slow spin round the block making full turns on the steering wheel. Then repeat again, syphon and replace with new fluid. 1l should be able to get you 3 flushes. |

I pulled a sample of my fluid and i cant tell a thing. I have a 2010 335d. Cap says atf. Called dealership and the parts department says its chf11.s
No one knows for sure because they admit bmw may have a tsb that calls for atf but no one knows for sure. They say if i took my car into have the power steering serviced they will be putting in chf11.s as the fluid. I mean why would it have a cap that says atf only unless it had a sticker and the sticker came off. |

Yes it does. I have Servo Tronic on my LCI, which is variable assistance - less effort in town and heavier at speed (for some reason XDrive on LCI on the continent kept the Hydraulic system as standard like pre-LCI) as opposed to the LCI electric variable rack (variable rake/ steering angle) I think its called Active Steering.
Perhaps if Pre-LCI cars had the option of Servo-Tronic (option S216A) then you have to use CHF11S? Check with your VIN number. Last edited by ChawenHalo; 08-19-2017 at 03:50 AM.. |

I popped down "The BMW Independent Specialists, Hinckley" and I asked him the same thing. He said it wouldn't be printed ATF only on the cap, and he dipped his finger in and to be honest it definitely looked red (ATF).. I suppose if it was the wrong oil it would have damaged the power steering pump by now so I'll assume for now it's right lol. |
