TPMS Warnings
I recently had some wheels put on with RFT LM-22's on my 328, paid $20 at NTB to have them mounted. I ordered the wheels from tirerack with the tpms sensors. Had no problems, then a few days after I had them put on my wife took the car on a road trip for the weekend and when she came back the low tire warning was on. It was really cold when she got back so I figured that was it, since when I was test driving cars in the 12 degree weather I noticed all of them had the warning on.
However, it persisted even when it warmed up to nearly 60. I checked the pressure and a few were a little below 30 PSI, so I filled them up to 32 (what the door sill sticker said). However, the warning is still on. Do I need to reset it or something? Or is it possible the sensors are bad? Anything else I can check? |

you have to reset the tpms through iDrive, and if you don't have iDrive then go to your dealer, they'll do i for you

Any time you change the tire pressure, rotate tires, etc. you need to initialize ( or "Reset" as it is called in TPMS ) the system. This can be done via iDrive or via the function stalk if you don't have iDrive (contrary to the post above - you don't have to have the dealer do this).
FWIW, I recently had a TPMS system malfuction warning shortly after leaving work one day last week, and did a reset at the next red light. Took care of it. I checked pressures as soon as I got home just to be sure (all was well).

Wheel TPM integration
I had a similar issue after I had new wheels and snow tires mounted. Every few weeks I get a "communications" error on my TPMS. I have been able to reset it after many tries but finally brought it to the dealer.
The dealer said that the wheels use an alloy that is not fully compatible with the sensors, and this under certain circumstances communication does not tae place properly. It may simply be a way of them saying that I should have spent $1200 more and gotten the BMW winter package, but they showed me that the error message they brought up indicated an intermittent issue. I will say when I had the original wheels and tires I did not have this problem , so it is possible. In the mean time for the 1K plus savings, I wil deal with resetting the system periodically. |

RESET your TPMS system. Simply get out your owners manual and look up the procedure. I had the same problem when I purchased new 19 inch BBS wheels. Any time you change out a wheel you need to reset the TPMS.
