If you live down in Texas you probably know it's love bug season. About a month ago I spent a good 72 hours detailing my car(clay, polish, ceramic coating), and it's killing me everything I step out of the car only to see my shiny paint covered in bug guts. Their also a pain in the ass to remove without marring the finish, I've been soaking them in QD, blasting the bulk off with a hose, and finally removing what's left with an IPA soaked Q-tip.

Im honestly debating covering the front end with painters tape until they're gone. How long is it safe to leave the tape on the paint without the adhesive baking onto the surface? Or does someone have a different solution?

I have two coats of gtechniq and exo v3 each and gtechniq detailer spray coating on my car and bugs comes off with water pressure during wash. also my front bumper and half of hood, headlights covered with clear bra which is also coated.

I currently have Gtechniq CSL and two layers of CarPro reload on the paint. Don't get my wrong, the bugs come off way easier on my car than they do my families other cars. The power washer is a good idea, unfortunately the machine I have is way too powerful. Even the second nozzle will etch concrete if your too close.

I've been throwing a bottle QD in the trunk along with a few fresh MF towels, they come off with little effort if your quick. If you wait more than 2-3 hours they turn into concrete. It seems they are almost done with they're life cycle, so hopefully we'll be done with this soon.

WD-40 sprayed or wiped on the front end works very well.
The bugs fall off with a light spray of water or during a wash.

Silicone spray popped to my mind, used with mountain bikes and dirt bikes to stop mud build up a bit.
Just any spray is a bit messy!

There are many great products out there that work well to loosen bug splatter and make it easier to clean.

What about Xpel Tracwrap for the bug season? Easy on/off and looks better than painters tape

Nextzett Insect is my go to bug release ...along with a bug sponge when needed. I don't typically have bug issues unless we are traveling to see family during summer ....if we are heading out of town I go the extra step of adding a coat of Optimum Car Wax on the front end of our Highlander Limited (coated with Optimum Gloss Coat)....helps a bit and only takes a few minutes to do...
