Hi

I get "Increased Battery Discharge" warning on my 2009 335xi Pre-Lci.

My understanding is that the battery is gone and it time to change it. However i am having hard time finding an exact match to my battery or to figure out the group of the battery i have.

My battery has these number on it:
61 21 7 583 642*
CA: 720 A*
CCA: 720A*
RC: 160*
Capacity: 90 Ah*

Its a White battery. So its not an AGM battery i guess?


I went to Canadian Tire here, and they said they have three batteries i could get, Group 48, 49 & 90.

I want to know what group is my battery and what do you guys recommend for batteries? Get it from Dealship? or Canadian Tire Mastercraft batteries are fine?

And if i can find a exact specification battery, do i still need to get it coded/registered?

Your current battery is an FLA H8 aka Group 49. The reserve capacity should be 160. If you replace it with the same size and specs (RC or Ah) you still need to register the new battery.

I don't think there are many aftermarket H8 batteries with the same RC or Ah specs as the BMW H8. If you have the ability to code the battery then you have more options.

Here are some specs that I noted for myself:
- CT Motomaster H8: 850 CCA, 140 RC, ? Ah
- CT Motomaster Eliminator H8: 900 CCA, 185 RC, 107 Ah
- CT Motomaster Eliminator Ultra H8 AGM: 850 CCA, 170 RC, 92 Ah (same as BMW H8 AGM, made by Exide)
- Walmart Everstart Maxx H8 (Canadian spec): 900 CCA, 185 RC, ? Ah (same as Motomaster Eliminator?)

So does that mean I should get it from dealership? Or if I still have to get it registered I could go with anything as close as possible to current specs and should be fine? I am in Edmonton so it's pretty cold here on winters should I get a higher cca battery?

What did you go with?

I have the obd2 cable I got from bimmer geeks. I still have to setup my computer I will do that before I change my battery. Inpa should be able to register the battery for me right?

I went with Walmart Everstart Maxx H8. Registered it with INPA.

Read good reviews about that battery, so i went with it. The only thing different is the RC. Does that add concerns?

And the next day, my water pump broke down.
I drove my car to work fine, but went out during lunch and the rad fan started running on high and i eventually got the Engine Running Hot warning.

Got my car towed to my mechanic. He said its the water pump.

Does anyone think changing battery had anything to do with it?

No. They just happen to both wear out at approximately the same time. Both this waterpump and car batteries in general usually last 5-7 years.
