N52 Fuel Injector issues 2E34 code?
Hey all,
A few weeks ago, I started getting a really strong gasoline smell -- we found out that I had a leak near the fuel rail, and I got that taken care of. One day recently, I went out to my car and started it up and felt like an earthquake was happening under me. Fair enough -- that's happened before, and 90% of the time it'll be an ignition coil on these cars. Got a new one and scanned codes to figure out which cylinder to swap: 002E34 -- Injection valve Cyl. 5, input signal Tried swapping the coil on 5, no dice. But then later on when I started the car again, it worked just fine. In other words, the problem is intermittent -- on a cold start after sitting a while, the car always shakes and misfires, but after it's warmed up (and been powered on/off once or twice) it sounds just fine. Is my cyl. 5 fuel injector failing? Or maybe when the fuel rail leak was fixed something wasn't put back together right?

I would first check for loose connections at that injector, clear the code, and see if it comes back. If it does, you could check continuity in the wires (for shorts or breaks) or replace the injector. |

Thanks. Yeah, I tried replacing the coil because I had one lying around and I had seen it work for someone else. I've tried clearing the code, but it does come back on a cold start. The thing that's puzzling me is that the misfire goes away and all is normal after the engine is run for a bit and then restarted.

Ok, another data point. I took the car out for a drive today (it hadn't moved in a few days).
I started it up and drove for ~10 mins. Bad misfire the whole way, lots of shaking especially at idle. Pulled over, turned it off, and turned it right back on. Fired up like nothing was ever wrong. Just went outside [a few hours later] to see what would happen if I hit start and it fired right up with no issues. So it's pretty clear this is happening only on a cold start.
