2 glow plug codes - more specific info?

I'm looking for more specific information on these 2 codes:
- Fault: Glow plug
- Code: 00494A
- Fault: Glow plug
- Code: 0049FF

I got this data from Carly. Is there any way to tell if these codes are pointed at one or more specific glow plugs? Or should I be suspecting the glow plug control module?

My car has been rough when starting on cold mornings here lately. It smooths back out to normal as soon as it warms up to operating temp. 108K miles, still all original glow plugs.

After I cleared the codes only the 0049FF code remains.

Thanks for any help!

I did read that thread a few days ago...

and it does not answer my specific question of... does anyone know if these codes refer to a specific glow plug (1 thru 6) or the glow plug control unit.

Your post does have good info on how to diagnose the glow plugs, and thanks for that part.

And BTW, the link you gave does not work. (too many http in it).

I asked this same qustion long ago in this thread but never got a specific answer.

Related question - I am using Carly to read and clear codes. Would any of the other common diagnostic tools mentioned in this forum give a better or more specific description?

I have three different scan tools and all have various uses and bring up different faults...
I use rhiengold, inpa (both bmw specific and they would give you the cylinder numbers on those codes I am sure. I can give the email of a guy who installs these tools on your computer however he does charge a little...
I also use a Snap on modis tool... great tool about $8k.
Long story short yes they refer to specific glow plugs...which cylinders I dont know off the top of my head... Buy a better scanner or see my post above...

I had glow plug codes earlier this year. Car felt like it ran fine so I replaced the module and haven’t had any issues since then.
