I'm guess you're talking about tire pressure? 40psi is somewhat high for cold pressure readings. That's a bit high and not recommended. If this is your tire pressure when your tire is hot, 40psi sounds about right.

The recommended tire pressure for 18" is 38 rear.. I thought that was pretty high.

The suspension isn't affected by overinflating the tires. However by doing so you are decreasing the size of the contact patch, therefore reducing traction and causing uneven wear across the tires. On the plus side you would reduce rolling friction --> improves fuel economy.

I follow BMW's specification for tire pressure.
