X-Pipe + Remus vs. Res Delete + Remus?
Not much going for me with the search button, but..
Would it make a difference in sound if I were to install an X-pipe instead of a simple resonator delete? This will be for my 328i which already has a remus muffler, but I don't know if the sound would be different or the same from either option. Does anyone know the differences in sound between the two set ups? P.S. I want more of an aggressive sound from my car, but after previewing some clips, I found that some cars may have this "rattling" exhaust note that I'm not a fan of. If this is the case I might just pull the plug on this project entirely. |

I have an x-pipe with dual remus mufflers....
I will post a YT link here in a sec. I have some rasp, but that will be corrected in December while I fly to TX for that entire month. |

This is a 335i conversion I assume right? Wouldn't that yield a different sound from what I have? My muffler is a quad like yours but mine is the one of the variants that are designated for the NA models.

I'm assuming its different..
I have AA headers as well. A mini cat at the cross to reduce the smell.. Is your muffler the type that has a pipe that branches off from the main muffler to fit behind the cargo tray?? |

That's the one I have exactly. I really would like to do this mod, but I'm just afraid that I may be paying more to get the same sound.
The resonator would be replaced by an x pipe, but it would have to connect to a y pipe to fit the 2-in-1-out configuration. IIRC, the pipings' shapes would have an impact on the airflow thus causing a change in sound. That's why I'm considering this over the simple res delete. |

I don't know enough about exhaust to have any solid input, but I think the x-pipe being that close to the y would be completely pointless. If it were a foot- or so- after the header-to-midpipes flange, I could see it having more of an effect, but just right before the y seems ineffective.

Hey guys,
As an update, I went ahead and did it. The x-pipe provided a very distinct sound in comparison to the plain old resonator delete. The note can be described as a growling kind of noise but it's more refined than you would expect. I'll be posting a video of this tomorrow, and another down the road if needed. (These things need to break in too right?) |

So you have a X pipe that flows into a y pipe or you just have the x and dual exhaust exits on the bumper..?? curious

I want to add a x pipe right where the 2nd cats go. then do a y pipe a couple feet back.

I would have loved to hear a before and after of the X pipe install. I still find it hard to believe having it right before the Y would do anything at all.
However, putting one where the secondaries are- THIS I can get on board with! I would definitely like to do this

Here's the clip after a while guys. I've been a bit busy and have been meaning to get this out. While recordings do not do the actual exhaust note justice, it's still best listened to with headphones.
Like the description I left states, I felt that it has more growl and more burble than a simple res delete. The stronger growl can be attributed to the unique piping, but I want to bring the sound out more. Maybe AFE race pipes, or SS mids can do the trick. Open to comments and criticism, thanks guys. |

Nice! I love pops and crackles you can hear.
It is a 6mt or AT? How does it sound on decel/under compression with the throttle closed?

It's my daily l so it's 6AT. But as an added note, I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but the car feels as if it pulls smoother, possibly from slight weight reduction.
