Power steering reservoir
Is anyone still having any power steering fluid issues overheating or spilling out?
Going to install a new reservoir from a company that does hydraulic rock crawling type stuff and they seem to have a decent unit I think will bolt into my 335d. I have no issues personally I just need ro replace my fluids and filter. This has a replaceable cartridge filter easy to replace and access. I see this might be useful to others to upgrade their reservoirs. |

There's a bleed hole on the cap, it overflows every time I track the car. I made a little catch can thing with some tubing but the 1M solution is cleaner

No issue. Build April 2008 with close to 50 track days. Car is daily driver too. Is common issue because people overfill the system. Nobody check the level when engine is running. That is how you check level on any power steering system.

This one i ordered has a threaded cap for a nipple fitting to vent and they also sell a overflow reservoir with like a 6 psi spring in it or something to keep some positive pressure on the system. Or I can put a small filter on the cap but i don't want to get moisture in the system.

I see fluid spilling out from high g'forces. It tends to stop getting pushed out once the fluid falls to the low level. Not a big deal and I just keep a sock on the cap. More importantly, I've seen my power steering fluid actually boil. The 6psi cap might actually help with that quiet a bit without needing a dedicated power steering cooler. |

Mine leaks after track days. I think there is a lot of heat that builds up, the fluid expands and then it begins to leak.
Unfortunately, I've also noticed that my steering rack is starting to leak as well. My car has barely 56K miles on a 2008 model. I suppose at one point in time, I'll just upgrade to M3 steering rack and M3 steering reservoir.

Here's what I did.
Used a brake fluid reservoir from a scooter, $10 on eBay. I have a hole drilled in that bracket, a zip tie around the hose now instead of the tape, and have to make a nicer mount, but no more mess. Works great. 22552302_10210842467639076_8924118339669756540_n
