I bought my first car and all my cars, put myself through college, and bought all of my houses on my own. My parents couldn't afford to send four kids to college, buy them cars and help with houses. I am very glad that I was forced to do it myself - it taught me a lot of lessons that I am grateful for.

I'm just glad I could prove my parents wrong. They are still mad about it lol. My mother once told me I'd be a total loser and live in one bedroom in my brothers mansion with his beautiful wife and kids. I felt vindicated when I brought my own single family house by myself when he had to ask my mom for money to buy his condo. He also never married and my house is worth more than his. I also drive a bimmer and he drives a Subaru base model. I'm not about comparisons but other people apparently are. It's great you did many things on your own but your parents did still raise you from birth and gave you a place to live and foos to eat so they deserve some credit. My mom often says she did everything on her own but perhaps that is giving herself a little too much credit and her parents not enough as she had something like ten brothers and sisters and her family preferred boys.

I loved my parents very much and never meant to imply that they were not good and providing parents. I just said that, with four kids, they could not afford to buy cars and college education. Made it much easier for us to develop independence from the parents purse strings.
