So I'm running Pilot Alpin PA4s in a square configuration on a 335i sedan, and at the very end of the season last year I hit a giant pothole and ripped one of the fronts to shreds. I replaced the pair so that they would match, but now have two new tires and two moderately worn tires (8/32ns if I had to guess).

Which pair should go front and which pair should go on the back when I mount them this weekend? I'm in midtown Toronto so there isn't usually that much snow to contend with.

Most tire experts recommend putting the tires with the most tread at the rear, for RWD and FWD cars. Not sure if your 335i is xDrive or RWD, but BMW xDrive are rear bias anyway and more wear to the rear tires. So put the new tires at the rear for safety and wear.

Why's that? I'd figure you'd want the most traction up front for turning and stopping.

Harder to control oversteer than understeer when slippery, why they say put to the rears.

Even under braking, better to have the rear under control.

Yup, good tires on the rear (Even though logically you think you'd want the good tires up front to steer, lol)
