Performance Exhaust Tips too low, one lower than the other
2011 335i Coupe. Listened to a bunch of videos and decided I wanted to go with the BMW Performance Exhaust even after discovering the price and that the kit was really just 2 new mufflers.
Got it installed today at my local indy and it looked fine standing over it and it sounded badass and so I could not wait to get it out on the road and hit it. Got back to work, got out of the car and took a look at it from a few yards back and the tips are not nearly as flush to the cut out as the stock ones were, but even worse, the passenger side tip is a good 1" lower than the driver's side one. See pics. This has to be fixable right? I emailed the shop and I am going back Friday. He said they would 'try' to fix it. That is not going to cut it, what did they do wrong with the install and/or what is the fix here? Thanks |

This is a common problem with the PE exhaust. The only thing you can really do is play around with the exhaust hangers and see if you can make it better.

Idk if you checked already but look at where the tips are welded?
My Remus quads were hanging too. I replaced the hangers, which were coincidentally bad.. Then I noticed one set of tips is literally welded an inch lower than the other. Remus said it was installation error even after I sent pics with a tape measure 😂😂 assholes Get it fixed that shits annoying as hell |

I am not familiar with hangers, don't know what that is. The tips on the PE slide on the muffler and then are torx screwed on as far as I can tell. I am taking it back to the shop that installed Friday but I was hoping to have some guidance for them.

You can adjust the tips to an extent with the exhaust clamps. Unbolt it and you'll have some wiggle room up and down. Get the tip into the position that you want, hold it there, then clamp it down.
New exhaust hangers will also help. They can sag over time. You won't need to jack up the car to change either of these. |

I took my exhaust off, changed the downpipe, put the exhaust back on and mine sits the same way. I just haven't bothered getting back under there to loosen things up and wiggle it around.
I'm sure that's all that's needed. |

I was not able to get this resolved myself. I took it back to the shop where I had the work done and they tried to adjust it with the clamp and also could not get it resolved that way.
They cut more pipe and adjusted both sides so they are a lot closer to being even now, but its still not perfectly symmetrical and it will bug the shit out of me going forward. It's probably close enough now that had it come out this way the first time, I'd not have noticed. I will post some pics later. |

When they welded the exhaust did you make sure the tips were centered in the bumper cut out?
Normally a good shop would know what to do. Tack weld first, align tips, check alignment again, tack weld some more, check alignment, weld completely. The way yours came out is completely unacceptable. And if your stock exhaust was centered before, then it is not the exhaust hanger bushings. |

I don't want to make a new post for this but I'd like to call Remus out on this for awareness.

The shop I took it to cut off the stock mufflers and clamped the new ones in their place. When I took it back for re-adjustment...the owner and two other guys messed with it for about an hour. The owner told me that was the best they could do and blamed it on whoever welded the muffler together at the factory. He said the pipe coming out of the muffler that the tip screws onto was not straight. I had originally planned on having this install done at a local Midas reasoning that they have a lot of experience with mufflers. I am considering taking it by there and asking them if they can align the tips. I don't know that I got the angle identical in each picture but basically if the left one is centered/good (and to me it looks pretty good, I guess it could be higher/more snug but that is probably personal preference...it is at least centered with the cut out) the right one is lower and closer to the passenger side. |

Eventually I will take it to a muffler shop and see what they have to say on the matter. |
