HELP: Injector removal tool needed
Hi guys,
I know this is probably a long shot but I just wanted to see if anyone has a n54 injector removal tool laying around that they no longer require or could lend me (with bond)? I've had a hell of a time replacing my injectors as one of the bolts holding the injectors in (U bracket) snapped half way out. It took 2 days of messing around to get the old bolt out and about 1.5 weeks for the bolt to arrive from overseas as no BMW dealership stocked it - even though the bolt is on every n54/n55 engine (and possibly more) over the last 12 years! No wrecker could be bothered spending time taking one bolt out either. 5 injectors came out relatively easy, however the cylinder 6 injector is extremely stubborn and hardly moves. I was hoping to purchase the removal tool from someone local so I'm not without a car for another 1.5 weeks waiting for international postage. If you have one laying around I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm located in Adelaide but happy to pay for express postage to get it here quicker. Thanks |

wrap injector with say masking tape and just use pliers to yank it out?
Otherwise I believe the fuel line is m12 x 1.5 pitch get a m12 x 1.5 bolt and yank it out by pulling on the bolt? |

Thanks for the tip DRJEKL,
I'll make a trip to bunnings tonight and see if I can get a nut and bolt that I can use to work it out. A coupling nut that is twice the size would be ideal so there is enough thread on the injector and bolt to really hit it up like the removal tool does. You've given me some good ideas. |

I was concerned that id need a removal tool but mine came out pretty easy.
Funnily enough #6 was the hardest for me also, I think thats because there's not as much room to get in there. Good luck with it mate, sometimes easy DIY tasks like this can turn into nightmares! FYI mine took forever to crank over and start. Then when it did start ran rough AF and stalled a few times.. After multiple attempts it finally started like a dream |

Thanks for your help mate. I ended up going to the hardware shop and getting a few pieces to make a DIY removal tool based on your info. It took a lot of effort but finally came out with persistence.
The injector was noticeably white in comparison to the others...a sign of a lot of heat I'm guessing. I've read that cylinder 6 does a lot of work on the n54 and is prone to problems for hardware earlier. I found cylinder 3 and 6 to be the worst injectors for appearance and how hard they were to remove. Ended up changing the plugs and coil packs while I was at it. Everything running as it should again.....touch wood! Here is a picture of the DIY tool for anyone else having the same problem... |
