Switching key fob off

Does anyone know if this is possible by a sequence of button presses, as opposed to removing the battery; apparently a double click on the lock button works on Merc keys.
I'm getting a bit concerned about thieves increasingly using remote key reading electronics.
Apparently keeping the key in the fridge works when you're at home (makes sense) and I know you can get signal blocking pouches but that detracts a bit from the convenience of keyless entry, as it's something else to cram into your pocket.
So much easier if the key could be switched off.

Doesn't switching it off also detract from keyless entry?

Well, yes.., but if it could be switched off by a simple double press of the lock button, as per Mercedes, and then re-acivated by the standard single press to unlock, I have no problems with a few button presses if that's what it takes to deter thieves.
You only have to scan through the numerous press releases concerning how easy it is to steal cars with keyless ignition to understand just how vulnerable our cars are.

Doesn't double clicking disable the interior sensor? For example. If you leave a pet in the car? Or leave the sunroof cracked open.

Can keyless entry be disabled altogether? If you have to do extra presses to switch off and again to switch back on again it'll be more faffing than a regular keyfob!

Actually, it's not keyless entry I was referring to, I think my version is called comfort access, i.e., I have to press the top button on the fob to unlock the car.
Reports I'm reading indicate that thieves can detect and amplify the signal from your key if it's in reasonable range (don't know how close their detector has to be) which enables them to clone your key onto a blank, open your car and drive away. Apparently the whole process takes seconds as they don't have to access your car's OBD port.

Yes, but surely a couple of extra button presses to switch off the key and prevent it emitting a background signal, is well worth the peace of mind.
Apparently Merc have thought of this and you can switch their keys off by just a double press of the lock button.

We all have to press the top button unless we have keyless, aren't the codes revolving or something?
