Think the maintenance schedule calls for those microfilters to be replaced every oil change. I'd guess they would probably last longer depending on how you operate your car and the particulars of your operating environment.

total about 165. a bit more than the BMS filters but all oem stuff.
A couple more part numbers to consider but these are hard to come by.
12-52-7-838-732
12-52-7-838-733

Most will not mess with getting these. Our "normal" E90s have the straight cable trays. The M3 has a boomerang shaped cable tray except it isn't on the preLCI E90 M3.

If you go to realoem, it's items 1 and 3 (see link)
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=12_1238

Here are some pictures I got off another E90post thread. The realoem artwork looked a little off so I held off until I found the pictures from the thread.

Finally, here is that thread where i got the pics too.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=18443914

So, I hunted on getbmwparts.com. Can't find them.
I called local dealer to try to order. They can't. They claim these part numbers are "blocked". Don't know what this means.

I am attempting to order from European vendor. I will let you know. Meanwhile, the other parts arrived at my home today but I'm out of town.
If they are indeed unobtanium, I will use tie wraps like the other folks who have already done this.

One last thing, how many cables feed across in the tray. It looks like 2 will fit. My car is away from me so I can't look for myself.

Cable tray parts for M3 cowl

Answers to my own questions (in post #48)
1) Ordered the two tray parts from Schmiedmann out of Denmark. Customer service guy says parts will come to them in a few days and then ship out of Europe end of next week. We'll see
2) There is only one cable that is in our straight tray. So, I will have spare room for future wiring additions that i want to hide.

I test fit the other parts and the 6 screws that hold E90 standard cowl down will be needed but one extra is needed too. 3 screws are used on each upper cover but another is needed to hold 2 lower housings together.

Upon closer inspection it looks like I will need to cut 3 tabs off of the lower housing to attach the lower cable tray. Look at the one picture where lower cable tray is attached to the lower housing. The lower housing has the three spots to attach but with the tabs still attached.

If and when the cable trays get here, I will show before and after pictures for the tabs to be removed. I might try to dremel slits into the tabs instead of removing whole tab so that the hood seal will have the rest of tab to be supported by. I'm sure that was clear as mud. The pictures will better communicated this.

While we're talking about that seal. That other thread that Former Rotor referenced early in this thread has some bad information. The realoem diagrams showing the M3 an E90 cowl parts only shows the rear most seal that runs along back edge of cowl. The other thread says they are same part so no need to buy it. This is certainly true but you never remove that rear seal. The FORWARD seal is a different story. The E90 one only has one MALE protruding finger as it is pushed into a horizontal slot on E90 cowl. I will come back and add a picture showing this seal's profile.

The M3 FORWARD seal has a female slot as the lower housing has a knife edge that the M3 seal slips over. It fits perfect.

Normally I have the AEM filter in place instead of the OEM stock filter box, but I was checking MAF reading comparisons between the two for another question that came up in a different thread. By the way, the AEM filter saves a couple pounds as well over the OEM setup.

So, from a weight perspective, this weekend I chopped off ~33 lbs of rear weight from the rear mufflers and ~5.5 lbs for the front cowl replacement FormerRotor shared. Combining this with the ~5 lbs saving from the EGR cooler delete, ~2 lbs of DPF material delete, and the ~ 2 lbs with the AEM filter, but add back several pounds for the 2um fuel filter and water/methanol pump, that's about 43-44 lbs net loss from stock. If my car had a New Years weight loss resolution it would be doing OK.
crap...that looks great...I am surprised you still use the engine cover given the heat under the hood.

TDI was showing you a picture in his winter running mode. He was commenting about the temperature wire as he was hunting for a warmer spot to put the oil catch can and inlet/outlet lines to prevent freezing.

He has told us of crazy cold temps (-17°F) in the mid west. He runs with no engine cover in the summer months. I've adopted this method too being so hot in Houston. I put the cover back on this weekend just to see what the M3 cowl looked like with the "full dress setup". It is purty.

So, I finished up the install on my car. Here are pictures of the minor tab removal needed to be able to bolt the lower tray onto the lower cowl housing. Not my photo but it communicates the point well.

2nd photo is the finished cowl with cable tray installed. I put the cable in the aft most slot of the tray as its sort of tight to fit there and couldn't reach to go in forward slot..

This addition of parts is only for the anal at heart that want things tidy and OEM looking. I do have tie wraps here and there but thought i would do this.

I got the pollen sensor on its mount but likely will extend the wires as there is no slack. Edit: i added a picture of it. I glued on a black rubber part from Lowe's to push on the alarm sensor. I figured out where to glue it onto hood in a clever way. Edit: added pictures of the stopper. Since it is black, it isn't real obvious.

The rubber is a stopper that is 1" diameter on one end and 3/4" diameter on opposite end x 1" long. I used a grinder to reduce height to 7/8". I can close hood but it isn't quite as smooth as I would like. I may need to grind off another 1/8". I super glued the rubber to the rib on bottom of hood. I presume I can break this bond easily for the needed grinding.

Update: There was a real good reason the hood wasn't closing quite right. Some numbnuts left a pair of pliars laying to passenger side of main central hood latch. It closes much better now. I'm sticking with the 7/8" height.

Having spent the better part of two recent Saturdays working on the car, I really would like to do this on my car. So I spent yesterday evening reading up on this mod (BB_Cuda, thanks for your posts and the links) and then searching for the parts.

Best price I can come to for the main seven parts (L lower, R lower, L upper, R upper, L cover, R cover and gasket) is right around $225. And that is before buying the filters, so this mod is tickling $300.

Am I missing something because one of the linked threads said something about $125?

I have looked on Tischer, parts dot com, FCP, ECS, Pelican, Rock Auto. Any other less expensive sources?

rulonger, I try to buy my parts from husker as generally they have provided me the best price deal. Vic Sullivan is the internet guy there and he does a great job and provides really good customer service. See link below. The site used to have the name "husker" in the text but now it's changed. Still same dealership and same people though.
https://www.bmwdirectparts.com/

This mod costs more now, people started this over on main E90 forum many years back and the M3 parts prices have went up.

Bumping to the top for zuke737.

Parts prices have shot up since the other thread that FormerRotor linked in had started. I may be due to change out those microfilters. The official BMW ones are pricey though.

I think the time to get in on this mod has now passed. I loaded up the cart and OMG, the total was $623. I bought the exact same parts in Oct 2015 for $276. The $276 was including the genuine active charcoal filters for $97. So, the total was more like $179 without filters. The non filter total is now..... $558. A factor of 3.12.

The only good news here is the active charcoal filters are now lower at $65 but i see non BMW brand for ~ $47 on the net.
